Job Description


The CCBC is in search of a skilled and dynamic Executive Director to assume leadership of the organization. The incumbent will be entrusted with executing the operational plan laid out by the Board of Directors and ensuring the seamless functioning of all organizational aspects. The Board is seeking a new leader who can continue the successes of the past while charting the organization\xe2\x80\x99s further development and evolution in a constantly changing world.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based in Toronto, Ontario. The CCBC offers a hybrid work schedule.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring the financial well-being of the organization by preparing and presenting the annual budget, providing monthly financial statements, and diligently managing the budget within the set parameters. This will involve fostering relationships with external bookkeepers, banks, and auditors.
  • Exploring funding opportunities and writing grant applications and reports.
  • Increasing and securing diversified funding for the organization through successful grant applications, effective marketing strategies and robust sponsor relationship-building efforts.
  • Providing oversight for key initiatives, notably the TD Grade One Book Giveaway and the nine literary awards presented annually by the CCBC for excellence in children\xe2\x80\x99s literature. This will include managing the funding aspect and funder relations.
  • Acting as the public face of the organization, engaging with members, booksellers, publishers, authors, illustrators, funders and the community at large. Cultivating a strong and positive image while maintaining a prominent presence within the community.
  • Overseeing a team of three employees, offering guidance, training and mentorship, with a focus on fostering long-term careers within an organization that promotes a growth mindset.
  • Formulating policy objectives and a comprehensive strategy, displaying a keen understanding of industry issues and trends.
  • Developing OKRs and KPIs for the CCBC\xe2\x80\x99s various programs and initiatives.
Requirements: PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a senior-level position within either publishing and/or a non-profit environment. Experience in managing national programs with multiple stakeholders is required.
  • Active fundraising experience with a history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field such as business administration and/or arts administration/cultural management. Additional training in management and/or fundraising is essential.
  • Experience serving on or reporting to a volunteer board.
  • High-level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization\xe2\x80\x99s strategic future and mission to the staff, board, members, donors, and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
  • Solid organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Dynamic public speaking, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional writing and editing abilities, including attention to spelling and grammar.
  • An understanding of the Canadian children\xe2\x80\x99s publishing industry and its marketplace, and an awareness of new publishing technologies, trends and practices are significant assets.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a highly desirable asset.
