Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Executive Director, Protection Services to join the team.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Business Partners, the Executive Director, Protection Services is accountable for the leadership, planning, overall direction, and implementation of the support services repatriation initiative, as well as the ongoing management and leadership of Protection Services and Security Systems for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership across the health authority for Protection Services and is accountable for the efficient and effective utilization of approved capital, financial, and human resources as well as for guiding and coordinating the activities of the assigned departments in accordance with the goals and strategic direction of the organization.

As an Executive Director, Protection Services with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be responsible and accountable for the ongoing provision of leadership and staff management, planning and coordination of the designated service that effectively incorporates subject matter expertise and delivers consistent performance to required standards.
  • Ensure effective service delivery by establishing systems and frameworks for monitoring adherence to site security programs developing corporate-wide safety, education and orientation programs, and monitoring key indicators and reporting to the Associate Vice President and senior leadership.
  • Develops communication strategies to promote Protection Services and Relational Security initiatives across Vancouver Coastal Health for operations management and clinical staff and other partners to provide support, advice and influence decisions regarding compliance, security processes, violence prevention and related issues. External contacts include Industry Committees, Health Care Unions, and other health care institutions.
  • Anticipates major changes that impact services, and plans and implements mitigating strategies.
  • Specific initiatives include strengthening business processes with all stakeholders, partnering with other health authorities, standardization of policies and processes, re-engineering the delivery of protection services, and active participation on associated committees and/or project teams both regionally and provincially, and on behalf of the organization.
  • Reporting to the Executive Director are the Directors, Managers, and other designated staff that support the effective provision of Protection Services across the health authority. This work is framed within VCH\xe2\x80\x99s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related discipline and completion of an undergraduate degree in criminology or related field, supplemented with ten (10) years\xe2\x80\x99 recent related managerial experience in Protection Services in a large complex multi-site organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certified Health Care Protection Administrator (CHPA) or Certified Protection Professional or equivalent designation.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-seeking groups, including those who experience intersectional barriers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, negotiate, engage, and plan at a senior level, for the implementation and sustainment of quality support services and operations for clients, staff, leaders, and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate large support service departments and programs either directly through oversight of a management team, and/or via oversight of contracted service providers.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare policies complemented by operations leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively lead, facilitate and support the use of information in support of system-wide quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to define/amalgamate diverse organizational requirements, develop financial parameters, resolve issues, identify and mitigate operational project risks, and develop long-range plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and facilitate consensus with various levels of government and community groups, and to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with business partners as well as other external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of security coordination/operations and law enforcement issues in a health care setting
  • Knowledge of security systems technologies, security countermeasures evaluation, selection and contract management practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills and ability to present to a wide range of individuals and partners in a diverse community.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with agency management, contractor representatives and senior management
  • Ability to implement, coordinate and direct programs and activities
  • Ability to develop and deliver training exercises, education programs and/or workshops to large audiences
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, maintain composure, and effectively act in emergency situations.
  • Identifies emerging initiatives, trends and industry best practices and ensures full consideration in the development and implementation of service delivery goals and objectives.
  • Uses strong written communication skills in the development of business cases and marketing and promotional materials.
  • Uses creativity and innovation to develop new programs and initiatives that meet and/or exceed service level agreements in the creation of healthy healthcare worksites
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
