POSITION INFORMATION
The Golden Food Bank is seeking an experienced individual to provide leadership, strategic vision and direction to the organization in the role of Executive Director. The Executive Director serves as the face of the Golden Food Bank, working closely with the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, our donors, government agencies, and other organizations to effectively deliver food access programs and food security initiatives in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Golden Food Bank Society and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, overseeing day-to-day operations, and advancing the organization's mission and vision. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures that the organization meets its goals through sound management, fiscal responsibility, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
1. Leadership and Strategic Direction
Provide visionary and strategic leadership to ensure alignment with the organization's mission, values, and long-term goals
Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, programs, policies, and initiatives
Foster a strong, collaborative, and inclusive organizational culture
Lead the development, implementation, and regular review of organizational policies to ensure they remain current, relevant, and aligned with legal and sector standards
2. Operations & Program Oversight
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services, ensuring they are accessible, sustainable, and responsive to community needs
Develop and manage individual program budgets to ensure spending aligns with available resources
Guide the development of any new programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, charitable objects, and strategic priorities
Build and maintain positive relationships with partner organizations and community stakeholders
3. Finance & Administration
Ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization through sound fiscal management and reporting
Develop and maintain the annual budget in partnership with the Board and Finance Committee
Prepare monthly financial reports, mid-year projections, and facilitate year-end financial statement preparation
Oversee accurate financial record-keeping, including payment processing, invoicing, coding, and account reconciliation
4. Fundraising & Communications
Lead and implement resource development strategies, including grants, donor relations, sponsorships, and fundraising campaigns
Actively source grant opportunities, prepare compelling proposals and budgets, ensure timely submission, and oversee grant management and reporting requirements.
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization with stakeholders, partners, funders, media, and the public
Oversee marketing and communications to enhance visibility and community engagement
5. People Management
Oversee the hiring, onboarding, training and performance of staff
Conduct annual performance reviews and implement work plans and goal setting
Ensure optimal management of the volunteer program through delegated staff; including recruitment, training, engagement, appreciation, and evaluation
Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive work culture through ongoing leadership and mentorship
Ensure compliance with HR policies and the BC Employment Standards Act 6. Board Relations & Governance
Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities
Prepare monthly Board meeting materials in collaboration with the Chair and attend all meetings
Serve as staff representative on Board Committees as requested
Provide regular updates and strategic advice to the Board on organizational performance, opportunities, and challenges
Support Board engagement, development, and succession planning
7. Regulatory Compliance & Preparedness
Conduct organizational risk assessments and implement risk management strategies
Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and sector standards, including but not limited to BC Employment Standards Act, BC Societies Act, Canada Revenue Agency, Food Banks Canada Standards of Excellence, Ethical Food Banking Code, and Food Safe guidelines
Maintain and regularly update the organization's Emergency Response Plan
Ensure timely filing of all regulatory reports, including the BC Society Annual Report and CRA Charity Return
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position reports directly to the Board of Directors
Regular and flexible weekday hours; deadlines and participation at meetings and other events will occasionally involve long work days, and/or evening and weekend work
Will work with diverse clientele, volunteers, and donors
Includes both working alone for extended periods of time and in a busy environment managing a team of staff and volunteers
Requires walking, standing, sitting, driving, repeated lifting boxes up to 50lbs Accommodations can be made for the right candidate.* The employee will primarily work from the Golden Food Bank Society offices, with the ability to work remotely when appropriate
WHAT WE OFFER
Salary range: $60,500-73,200 per year (Candidates with 1-5 years of relevant experience can expect compensation at the lower end of the range, while those with extensive experience and proven fund development skills may qualify for the higher end.)* Permanent, full-time employment at 35 hours per week
Weekday Work Hours
Vacation: 3 weeks paid vacation on accrual basis

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Post secondary degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Proven leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit, public, or social enterprise sectors
Professional background and training in nonprofit governance, food security, social work, and/or delivering trauma-informed services is considered a significant asset
Must have a valid Driver's License and clean driving record
A current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check is required
