Job Description

Established General Contracting company is seeking an experienced Commercial/Residential construction estimator to join our team. This position will entail accurately determining the costs of construction projects, including materials, labour, and equipment. And includes reviewing project plans, calculating quantities, and collaborating with subcontractors and vendors to develop detailed budgets and bids. Compensation to be based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Analysis:

Thoroughly analyze project plans, specifications, and materials lists to calculate quantities and associated costs.

Material Sourcing:

Research and obtain pricing from vendors and suppliers for all necessary materials.

Labor Estimation:

Determine the required labor hours and rates for each task, factoring in project complexity and subcontractor availability.

Subcontractor Management:

Coordinate with subcontractors, negotiate bids, and ensure their estimates align with the project scope.

Budget Development:

Create comprehensive cost estimates, including contingency allowances and project overhead, to build a detailed budget for the project.

Bidding and Proposal preparation:

Prepare competitive bids for projects, ensuring accurate and realistic cost projections.

Communication and Collaboration:

Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate costing and smooth project execution.

Additional Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain directory of suppliers and trade contractors

Preliminary estimates for proposed projects

Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications

Estimate multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail.

Preparing schedules for construction of the project to accurately estimate labour and time requirements

Attend project site to verify site conditions prior to estimate

Qualifications

3+ years of experience working as an estimator or similar Ability to work independently Analytical and math skills Ability to work well on a team Very detail oriented Ability to understand technical drawings and requirements
Familiarity with financial and project management principles

Thoroughness and reliability Excellent organizational skills
