Great opportunity for an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator (Structural & Miscellaneous Steel) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects, including commercial and light industrial work. This role requires a strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents, as well as the ability to collaborate with various teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements and deadlines. Field experience and expertise in both structural and miscellaneous steel estimating are considered assets.
Daily Responsibilities:
Analyze project specifications, drawings, addendums, and related documentation to prepare detailed labor, material, and equipment costs.
Develop comprehensive and competitive estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects, including field estimates.
Conduct site visits to gather additional information when necessary.
Identify potential risks or challenges based on project size, nature, or timeline.
Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain essential information.
Collaborate with construction, shop, and office personnel throughout the bidding process.
Review and evaluate subcontractor bids for compliance with project requirements.
Prepare detailed quote letters, including scope lists, necessary qualifications, and exclusions.
Maintain and update estimating standards, processes, and best practices.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, provide clarification when needed, and follow up on quotations to determine status and secure projects.
Organize and maintain accurate records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
Provide technical support to project managers and monitor project costs against estimates during execution.
Attend virtual and in-person client meetings as required.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in estimating within the structural steel and miscellaneous steel sectors, including commercial and light industrial industries.
Field experience and field estimating expertise are considered assets.
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word).
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents accurately.
Excellent understanding of construction processes, materials, labor requirements, and industry standards.
Exceptional time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, solution-driven, and eager to learn.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Dedicated team player.
Requirements:
Canadian Citizenship/Legally able to work in Canada.
