Job Description

Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for construction and mechanical projects by reviewing plans, construction documents, and specifications. This role requires collaboration with the project team, vendors, clients, and subcontractors to develop thorough proposals that ensure project feasibility and alignment with requirements. The Estimator's work is essential for competitive bids, risk mitigation, and successful project execution, supporting both operational integrity and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Review project documents, drawings, and specifications to identify scope and requirements for cost estimation.

Perform detailed quantity take-offs and price estimation for labour, materials, and equipment.

Engage with project managers, clients, stakeholders, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify requirements and confirm estimate accuracy.

Negotiate competitive pricing and favorable terms with suppliers and subcontractors.

Document all estimates, contracts, and project correspondence in an organized manner.

Monitor project progress and update estimates to reflect changes in scope or conditions.

Prepare and submit bids, proposals, and supporting documentation for clients.

Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and quality standards throughout estimation processes.

Utilize specialized estimating software and tools for calculations and reporting.

Maintain trade partner, vendor, and client relationships to support ongoing and future projects.

Mechanical / Plumbing Estimator Specific Duties



Prepare detailed mechanical and plumbing estimates for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects (including take-offs, labor, subcontractor quotes, and risk assessments).

Analyze drawings and related documents for scope identification and accurate pricing.

Collaborate with project managers for smooth handoffs and documentation accuracy, supporting Estimating to PM SOP.

Manage cost databases, vendor relationships, and internal benchmarks.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative solutions in pre-construction phase.

Support PMs and field teams with cost data during project execution without duplicating oversight.

Participate in monthly Lessons Learned meetings for accuracy review and process improvement.

Contribute to standardized procedures, checklists, and templates with training and management teams.

Maintain confidentiality of bid data and proprietary pricing information.

Qualifications



Licensed or Journeyperson Plumber preferred, or equivalent trade/estimation experience (minimum 5 years for Mechanical/Plumbing estimator roles).

Proven experience preparing bids for mechanical/plumbing in ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) construction.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, drawings, codes, and specifications.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and estimating software (e.g., Fastest, AutoCAD, Trimble, Excel-based models).

Demonstrated accuracy, analytical thinking, and professionalism under time pressure.

Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams.

Commitment to professional development and mentoring junior estimators.

Working Conditions



Primarily office-based with periodic site visits for project validation and review.

Participation in coordination meetings and cross-departmental initiatives is expected.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
