POSITION OVERVIEW:

Full-time; Monday - Friday

The Estimator is responsible for accurately calculating costs and preparing quotes for large format print projects. This role involves reviewing client artwork and specifications, selecting appropriate materials and production methods, and estimating expenses for printing, finishing, and installation.

The Estimator also analyzes job requirements to develop detailed cost breakdowns, ensuring quotes align with production capabilities and profitability targets.

This position collaborates closely with sales, production, and purchasing teams to ensure estimates are competitive, achievable, and meet client expectations. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and knowledge of printing processes are essential to support efficient project planning and cost control.

Estimating

Review project specifications, artwork, and client requirements to determine scope and production needs. Calculate material, labour, and production costs for printing, finishing, and installation. Prepare and deliver accurate and timely quotes and proposals to clients. Collaborate with sales, production, and purchasing teams to ensure project feasibility and efficiency. Maintain and update pricing databases, templates, and cost-tracking tools. Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, reduce costs, and streamline workflow processes.

Costing

Analyze job specifications to determine accurate material usage, machine time, and labour requirements. Develop detailed cost breakdowns, including materials, substrates, ink, finishing, and installation expenses. Utilize internal costing software or spreadsheets to input, track, and update standard rates for materials and production. Work with the Purchasing team to verify current material pricing and vendor rates. Ensure all estimates reflect current equipment capabilities, efficiency rates, and waste factors. Compare estimated versus actual job costs to identify variances and recommend adjustments to improve accuracy. Review and troubleshoot issues within the costing system to ensure pricing data and automated calculations are accurate, making necessary corrections and adjustments as required. Maintain a library of historical job costs to support future quoting consistency and trend analysis. Assist management with margin analysis and profitability reporting for projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 2-3 years of experience in large format print estimating, production planning, or a related manufacturing environment. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with estimating or ERP systems, costing configurators, and Microsoft Excel (formulas, lookups, and data validation). Solid understanding of print production workflows, materials, substrates, and finishing processes. Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across sales, production, and purchasing teams. Ability to identify and resolve costing or system discrepancies to ensure data accuracy and operational efficiency.
