About Strescon Limited

Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces, the New England region of the United States, and Bermuda. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.

In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.

Job Summary

This role is responsible to create and maintain 3D models for sales and estimating purposes. The estimating modeler will collaborate with sales, estimating and customers to create models for potential projects while following the procedures for modeling with our Tekla Software. The ideal candidate must be able to interpret architectural and structural contract drawing and specifications, have exceptional communication skills and be focused on the task at hand while managing priorities and deadlines. The estimating modeler will also be responsible to prepare estimates by collaborating with various other departments and subcontractors, gathering and evaluating proposals, shop drawings, specifications, and related documents. In general, this is a position where guidelines, structure, and established procedures must be followed closely.

Responsibilities

  • Creating 3D models using Tekla Structures software
  • Review bid documents (specifications, architectural and structural drawings, addendums and bid closing date)
  • Preparing estimates using Microsoft Excel and quote letters using Microsoft Word.
  • Efficiently coordinate sending/receiving of estimating documents to sub-contractors and vendors
  • Accurately prepare material take-offs and estimates in a timely manner, meeting all bid deadlines
  • Effectively communicate with other departments and the plants and focuses on solutions that optimize production and efficiency
  • Represent the department and company in a professional, positive manner when liaising with internal and external customers
  • Other duties as assigned
Technical Requirements
  • Post-Secondary education in Civil, Architectural, Structural or Mechanical Technology is preferred; however, less education combined with appropriate experience will be taken into consideration
  • Previous experience with drafting and experience using a computerized 3D drafting software package is a definite asset
Business Requirements
  • Ability to work in a steady and even pace to promote accuracy and quality of work
  • High attention to detail
  • Previous experience in the construction industry is an asset
  • Ability to read construction drawings is an asset
  • Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Cultural Requirements
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
