About Our Opportunity

The Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) Program Intervention Coordinator is part of a provincial team providing leadership, coordination, administration, reporting, and communication for the service delivery response and opportunities funded by DCS and our partners.

This role is integral to ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness as well as enhanced skills training, and employability for Nova Scotians.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Coordinator, you have a direct impact on clients, system outcomes, and our effective service delivery. Using your comprehensive knowledge and skills, we count on your ability to provide guidance and training to others. In addition to this, you will:

  • plan, develop, evaluate, promote, and monitor new and existing prevention and employability-related projects and programming;
  • ensure the effective and consistent management of contracted agreements including needs identification, assessment of activities, budget, organizational capacity, and outcomes;
  • work in partnership and proactively with key stakeholders including participants, community, employers, and internal staff;
  • use labor market information, trends analysis, and financial forecasting to create and administer a suite of community and departmental-based program offerings that will result in enhanced skills training, employability and/or employment of Nova Scotians; and
  • maintain appropriate records and statistical information.
In this key role, you act in a leadership role in the coordination of regional activities and in collaboration with the ESS Program, other SD staff, and our community/government partners. In addition, you will represent the Department on various committees focused on achieving client self-sufficiency through employment-related outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

As our next Coordinator, you have completed your bachelor\'s degree in a related field and have five (5) years of related experience in policy/program planning and development.

You must demonstrate effective communication skills (both verbal and written), be comfortable in the delivery of presentations, and facilitate the implementation/delivery of new programs. Essential to your success is your strong report writing for project proposals and strong ability to analyze data from multiple sources to draw appropriate conclusions and make suitable recommendations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.

Further to your strong analytical nature, you are creative, proactive and familiar with labour market trends, poverty and un/underemployment of individuals facing systemic barriers, mental health, addictions, and other issues that prevent sustained employment and income. You are comfortable acting in a leadership role, and demonstrate past experience with coordination of activities, programs, or services. You have a strong nature for multi-tasking, are task oriented, and able to work efficiently and effectively in a workplace environment that is constantly dealing with time pressures and conflicting pressures.

Assets include experience with:
  • Employment Support and Income Assistance, as well as knowledge of services and programs offered by the Department and other community agencies
  • Labour Market Programs Support System (LaMPSS)
  • Work Activity Centres and initiatives
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

We recognize equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience, providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:
  • A related master\'s degree and three (3) years of related experience
  • Nine (9) years of related experience

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting with occasional travel throughout the province as required. You will have daily contact with various Department staff, other Government Departments as well as other local Agencies.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

This is a term opportunity with an anticipated end date of July 23, 2024. The appointment status (\xe2\x80\x98term\xe2\x80\x99, \xe2\x80\x98temporary\xe2\x80\x99 or \xe2\x80\x98casual\xe2\x80\x99) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
