Job ResponsibilitiesThe EHS Manager is responsible for effective implementation of all Environmental, Safety, Health, & Responsible Care programs, procedures, work practices and controls for the Evonik Maitland site. The scope includes all Evonik and contract employees at the site.
Identify and implement safety and environmental regulations as per OHSA, MOL, MOEEC, and EC, voluntary industry programs (e.g., Responsible Care & ISO 14001), and Evonik as required
Lead and organize initiatives between Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Corporate to implement acceptable systems in order to ensure compliance and conformance to Company policies and management systems
Ensure site complies and conforms to Corporate environment policy and procedure changes
Develop and manage programs to ensure that the plant operations follow and adhere to proven and standardized procedures, policies, and rules by all assigned team members, visitors, & customers while on site
Main point of contact for all EHS regulatory bodies, e.g. MOL and MOEEC.
Maintain and develop, if required, the necessary standards to ensure the security, health and safety of personnel, visitors, and contractors on site
Manage and perform Safety audits and efficiency testing, identifying deficiencies in work procedures, safe work behaviors, and develop remedial actions in with the the appropriate member(s) of the Management Team
Train and coach personnel through the development of critical documentation and tools to support risk assessments, safe work practices, and adverse event/near miss reporting & investigation.
Responsible for establishing, tracking, and monitoring progress toward site and department goals
Collaborate with Management Team to ensure continual improvement and compliance.
Provide direction, assistance, and support for corrective actions and recommendations to assure improvements.
Promote a culture of injury-free attitudes at the site by demonstrating honest, genuine care, and passion for EHS
Develop and implement workplace inspections and audits to identify work hazards and exposures
Oversee the Management of Change (MOC) system
Management representative for ISO 14001, and Responsible Care, and all related systems
Maitland representative for global EHSQ meetings
Represent the Evonik to outside agencies, media, and auditors on related matters
Develop, submit, and maintain all environmental permits
Act as primary contact for any reporting required for Evonik or regulatory bodies for all EHS aspects
Manage regulatory documentation and record-keeping systems on related matters
Active member of Maitland Management Team
Coach and provide EHS support to the Managers of all departments at the site
Perform the duties as related to the Management System
Responsible for developing and ensuring that employees receive training on related topics
Demonstrate flexibility regarding any other duties which may be required periodically
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial setting with at least 5 years in an EHS related function.
Strong understanding and knowledge of EHS compliance and regulatory requirements
Strong understanding and knowledge of regulatory and auditing body relations and expectations
Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation.
Knowledge of federal and provincial health and safety legislation.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
Deep knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals
Be skilled and knowledgeable in hazard and exposure identification, auditing and inspections
Interpersonal skills
Good knowledge of appropriate IT-Tools (e.g., MS Office, Workday)
Knowledge of safety management systems
Management skills and deep understanding of the business aspects in EHS operation
