Closing Date: August 14, 2024Position SummaryAs an integral member of the Safety Services Department; the Ergonomist, Safety Services, develops, maintains and delivers services related to ergonomic principles and best practice for the University Health Network (UHN) to ensure a healthy and safe environment for UHN personal and compliance with applicable legislation.Duties

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive Ergonomics program for UHN by evaluating, developing and implementing training, policies, standards, guidelines and procedures related to Ergonomics.
  • Delivers Ergonomics services to UHN by planning, scheduling and conducting ergonomic assessments, physical demands analysis, recommendations and interventions as may be required.
  • Ensures that UHN satisfies applicable Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Safety, Insurance Board and Human Rights legislative requirements in all ergonomic interventions.
  • Provides state-of-the art advice by researching problems and maintaining a broad knowledge of beneficial and current ergonomic products/methodologies.
  • Promotes the prevention of work-related injuries and occupational illnesses by counseling employees and managers on work techniques, the optimum design of tasks and the purchase of cost-effective, ergonomically appropriate tools, equipment and furniture.
  • Fulfills UHN\'s legal obligation to accommodate returning workers by conducting ergonomic assessments (physical demand analysis, task analyses, activity demand profiles etc.) advising managers, supervisors and Health Services and Safety Services departments on job suitability and develops accommodating workplace modifications in a consultative role.
  • Consults and coordinates with Joint Health and Safety Committees, Management, occupational health and safety professionals, with representatives of bargaining units and legislative bodies by effective oral or written communication and clear, concise technical reports.
  • Maintains and periodically reports all-inclusive Ergonomics activity descriptive statistics.
  • Performs other related activities and cross-functional duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized bachelor\'s degree in a related scientific/technical discipline or recognized equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years related experience required.
  • Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) designation an asset.
  • Experience working in a health care environment an asset.
  • Eligibility for registration as a \'Professional Ergonomist\' in the Province of Ontario required.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum oversight/supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Thorough working knowledge of all standard scientific instrumentation and the proper use of technical data collection equipment utilized in Ergonomics investigations.
  • Competent with PC computers and a thorough understanding in the Application of advanced human movement analysis software.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate at all levels and to prepare detailed technical Ergonomics reports.
