About the Role:



Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Research, the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization Advisor for Research provides operational leadership for Brock's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan, promotes a culture of diversity in research, and provides advice to Brock researchers, Deans, and the Vice-President Research on considerations of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) as these apply to research strategy, planning, program compliance, and grant applications.

The Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization Advisor for Research will:



Liaise with a complex and varied range of government, Tri-Agency, and other external research sponsors regarding EDID issues and programs; Manage and oversee ever-changing EDID requirements set by external research sponsors and ensure updates are communicated and incorporated internally; Ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation, policies, and sponsor guidelines related to EDID, by educating, supporting, and socializing change with researchers, senior administrators, and research enterprise staff; Manage EDID reporting and accountability relationships with multiple external research sponsors and oversight agencies to ensure continuing eligibility for essential research funding for the institution; Advance the University's research enterprise and performance in achieving EDID metrics; Provide strategic and operational leadership, expertise, and direction in formulating, revising, and achieving internal goals for EDID related to research; Lead the development and implementation of EDID research-related policies and practices for research throughout the University; Advise the Vice-President, Research and senior leadership team on equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization practices and processes in research; Research, develop, coordinate, communicate, and implement resources to guide and support the implementation of EDID initiatives for research; Develop and deliver training to members at all levels of the University on the mitigation of biases in the research enterprise, including as required by external research initiatives; Liaise with University partners to share resources, coordinate, and/or deliver collaborative services.

Key Skills and Experience:



Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and experience developing and implementing EDID programs, including providing leadership for unit or institutional initiatives; Experience executing numerous priorities and multiple projects; Innovative and strategic thinker with a broad vision for the role of EDID in achieving research excellence; A strong awareness of current EDID trends including legal and legislated frameworks; Demonstrated understanding of systemic issues and of the legal and legislative frameworks related to EDID, not limited to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); Collaborative leadership style and a demonstrated track record of taking initiative; Well-developed understanding of best practices for advancing EDID in research; Proven project-management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and achieve objectives; Experience with and knowledge of federal and provincial research funding programs; Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external partners, including members of equity-deserving groups; Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated adaptability and flexibility; Ability to work collaboratively, in a supportive, user-oriented manner, when dealing with issues and challenges; Tact, discretion, and experience handling confidential information and communications.

Preferred or Asset Skills:



Formal training or certification related to EDID is an asset; Research-based graduate degree preferred; Experience in a research environment is preferred; Curriculum development or instructional experience is an asset; and Demonstrated experience in a public sector or educational environment is an asset.

Salary and Total Rewards:



Job Grade O, Salary Scale ($89,090-$144,470); Target Hiring Range: $89,090-$100,000;

The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
