A Brief Overview

The Yellow House Student Centre for Equity & Inclusion team is committed to creating comfortable and accountable spaces for students who identify as Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and/or as People of Colour (QTBIPoC) to feel safe, to create community, to be empowered, to celebrate their identity and to flourish. We seek to engage students in initiatives that actively dismantle oppressive, racist and colonial ideologies and practices.

Reporting to the Director, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator designs and implements programs that help students feel seen, heard and prioritized on campus. They work directly with student staff at the Yellow House and more widely with students and student clubs across campus to co-design this work. They use creativity and organization to widely communicate programs and resources available to students through social media and other communication channels used by students.

This position develops, coordinates, and implements the planning and delivery of programs, services, workshops, and events to increase visibility for underrepresented students, and promote diversity and inclusion. This position plans, develops, implements, and evaluates non-traditional learning activities including placements, community-based projects, \'mini-stream\' offerings, exchanges, and other experiential learning opportunities. This position also researches, analyzes, recommends, collaborates on, refines, and implements programs and approaches that support goals for equity, diversity, and inclusion of students.The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends. This position is subject to the Averaging provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends. What you will do Advises and consults with stakeholders to ensure principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion are considered in all aspects of departmental operations and program planning.

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements the planning and delivery of programs, services, workshops, and events to increase visibility for underrepresented students, and promote diversity and inclusion. Works with students in underrepresented communities to identify and locate resources to support academic, and personal needs. Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs, events, and services that encourage focused student enrollment, and improve student experience. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates non-traditional learning activities including placements, community-based projects, \xe2\x80\x98mini-stream\xe2\x80\x99 offerings, exchanges, and other experiential learning opportunities. Gathers information on student experience, prepares reports and recommendations, and identifies new and/or enhancements to programming. Researches, analyzes, recommends, and collaborates on, refines, and implements programs, and approaches that support goals for equity, diversity and inclusion of students. Builds and maintains relationships to realize the university\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity principles. Coordinates and assists with the planning and execution of ceremonies and special events designed to improve the student experience, and assist with cultural and academic transition.
  • Advises prospective underrepresented students on matters including admissions, program details, university life, student resources and support, and financial assistance.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
Required Experience
  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
    • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset. and
    • Experience advising students considered an asset. and Experience planning, coordinating and/or managing events or promotions considered an asset. Experience in program analysis and reporting considered an asset.
    • Experience developing, coordinating and producing promotional and marketing material considered an asset. and
Required Licenses and Certifications Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Promote a work environment that is free from sexual violence, harassment and discrimination, and the ability to show empathy for those who have experienced trauma.
