Horizon Legacy is pioneering the use of robots in construction and solving the problem of labour shortage and affordable housing. Horizon is creating the first construction automation lab in Canada, located in the heart of Toronto, and looking to hire an automation & robot technician to program, operate, maintain, and service our robotic system.

You will be working with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, and constructors. We hope will be an extremely fun and challenging endeavor for the right candidate motivated by challenges and creative problem solving.

Place of work



Normal work will be in person, up to five days a week at our automation lab in Toronto near the intersection of Wilson Ave and Keele St.

For the majority of the year, you will be required to work in the field or on a construction site and will be there for weeks at a time.



THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION BUT COULD LEAD TO FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT



The following are possible activities the candidate is expected to carry out as part of the work:

Learn to operate, maintain, program, trouble shoot, fix one or more 3D printing concrete systems for construction, including robotic system(s), mixing system(s), controllers, materials, and associated equipment. Manage activities relating to concrete printing including assembly, disassembly, transport of materials & equipment. Coordinate with other trades and team members Monitor and regularly update the inventory of materials and supplies necessary for the concrete 3D printing process, and coordinate with the purchasing team to ensure timely availability of them. Manage and monitor speed and flow rate of printer, feed stock, adjust and fine tune for optimal performance. Track testing and construction progress, including daily reports, photos, safety reports, maintaining logs, and records for printing process. Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance plan for the equipment and tools used in the concrete 3D printing process and follow it rigorously to avoid delays and increase the efficiency of the process. Regularly inspect the condition of nozzles, print heads, sensors, pumps, and other critical components of the equipment, and take preventive measures to repair or replace them in case of any faults or wear. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of concrete 3D printing equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and extending their useful life. Provide support to incorporate additional automation capabilities and integrate mechanical, electrical, plumbing. Manage visitors to the testing facility, manage visitors on the construction site specifically as it related to the printing system. Coordinate and provide support for the Construction Automation Engineer, Construction Team, subcontractors, subject matter experts or other team members as needed. Receive training and follow strict occupational safety and health procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace. Receive additional training or take courses and certifications on an as needed basis (Forklift training, AutoCAD, REVIT, Rhino, Grasshopper, Robot Studio, or other software deemed necessary). Other Duties



Manage visitors to the testing facility, manage visitors on the construction site specifically as it related to the printing system; Train new employees, customers; Coordinate and provide support for team members as needed; Receive health and safety training, maintain a safe work environment, ensure the company's Health and Safety Protocols are adhered to; Receive additional training or take courses and certifications on an as needed basis (AutoCAD, REVIT, Rhino, Grasshopper, Robot Studio or other software deemed necessary); Other duties as assigned;

Ideal Candidate



This position research would be ideally suited for someone with the following qualities: Strong troubleshooting and programming, electrical controls, pneumatics, mechanical, process automation and related concepts Able to operate a variety of machines and hand tools Physically fit, willing and able to lift heavy weights on a regular basis, up to 50lbs or more at a time Valid driver's license, willing to travel and work on a construction site up to several weeks at a time Excited about pioneering automation in the construction industry Is a self-starter, problem solver, energized by challenges, persistent, and embraces innovation and new ways of doing things Experience working in construction or concrete considered an asset
