Department: Recreation Operations / Snowmaking Type of Contract: Contract, 12-Months Work Location: Milton, ON, L9E OC6 CH Site: Kelso/Glen Eden *Must be willing/able to work at any CH designated area. Posting Start Date: 2023-12-01 Posting End Date: 2023-12-11

Your Opportunity

This is a hybrid role with responsibilities shifting seasonally to include. Spring through Fall (April \xe2\x80\x93 November) Equipment Operator, Trail Crew
  • Conduct trail inspections and complete trail maintenance using basic hand tools to maintain the high quality and safety of trails and trail features
  • Complete trail maintenance using equipment such as tractors, skid steers, dump trucks and mowers
  • Assist with setup of weekly bike race series and other special events
  • Assist visitors with inquiries and maintain a safe and attractive visitor environment
  • Mindful of all safety hazards/concerns within the work environment and ensure all safety concerns are reported to the appropriate individuals
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned
Winter (November-April) Equipment Operator, Snowmaking
  • Support GE snowmaking program, including completion of daily operational logs, staff records, and other associated tasks
  • Supervise shifts, in the absence of the coordinator, to ensure snowmaking programs proceed as planned
  • Adjusting, relocating, turning, or moving of snow guns, sometimes by hand, to maintain snowmaking efficiency
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, and diesel fuel systems
  • Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs and checklists
  • Maintain all safety barriers, padding, and guards around snowmaking equipment
  • Ensure Conservation Halton roads, parking lots, and walkways are clear of snow and sanded
  • Responsible for operating specialized seasonal maintenance and other equipment (eg. Plow trucks, Tractors, Snowmobiles, large mowers)
  • Support with completion and maintenance of snowmaking staff training
  • Work closely with and assist other departments such as Grooming, Ski Patrol, Lift Operations

Your Qualifications

  • A strong interest in hiking, biking, and conservation
  • Experience with hiking, working outdoors, and/or familiarity with plant/wildlife identification is an asset
  • Previous experience using basic hand tools (shovels, rakes, line trimmers etc.) is an asset
  • Related certification or experience in field operations, equipment operations (small and heavy equipment) and/or maintenance
  • Ability to do basic system troubleshooting, awareness of the dangers involved with high-pressure vessels, and knowledge of restarting a system after an emergency shutdown.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions (wind, snow, ice, rain)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (days, overnights, weekends, and holidays) when optimal temperatures provide for the best snowmaking.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d, with a satisfactory Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract is required
  • Successful candidates must provide own CSA approved safety footwear prior to first day of employment
      • Partial reimbursement is provided in accordance with the Safety Workwear policy.
  • Successful candidates must provide own safety approved helmet prior to first day of employment
      • Partial reimbursement is provided in accordance with the Safety Workwear policy
