The Equipment Operator / Labourer is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment while assisting with manual labour tasks on various construction and earthworks projects. This hybrid role supports the crew in day-to-day site operations, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
Operate heavy machinery such as skid steers, excavators, loaders, and compactors as required.
Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (fluids, grease, track checks, etc.).
Ensure all equipment is operated safely, in compliance with site procedures and manufacturer specifications.
Load and unload materials, move earth, and assist with grading, trenching, and backfilling activities.
Support site layout and excavation activities per plans and supervisor direction.
Manual Labour Duties
Assist with site preparation, formwork, concrete placement, or material handling as needed.
Perform shovelling, raking, compacting, and general cleanup around work areas.
Support installation of utilities, drainage, curbs, or other infrastructure components.
Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Assist trades and operators as directed to maintain workflow on site.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all company safety policies, site-specific rules, and PPE requirements.
Participate in daily toolbox meetings and hazard assessments (FLHAs, JHAs).
Report all incidents, near misses, and equipment defects immediately to supervision.
Maintain a clean and organized work area to minimize hazards.
Teamwork & Communication
Work collaboratively with site supervisors, operators, and crew members.
Communicate clearly when spotting or directing equipment movements.
Support other tasks as assigned to keep the project progressing on schedule.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 2 years' experience operating heavy equipment on civil or construction sites.
Valid operator's certificate or ticket (if required for certain machinery).
Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract (Class 3/Air Brake an asset).
Ability to perform physical labour in varying weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to assist in all aspects of site work.
Knowledge of construction safety practices and procedures.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, kneel, and work on uneven terrain.
Tolerance for outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
