The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract, in accordance with the duties of this position.

This union position offers an hourly wage range of $25.35 to $31.69, 40 hours per week (OPSEU Local 328). Per the Collective Agreement, OPSEU Members have first consideration.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Equipment Operator will be responsible for carrying out maintenance on municipal infrastructure including but not limited to roads, sidewalks, municipal lots, culverts, ditches, and parks. This will be accomplished by operating various pieces of light, medium, and heavy equipment as well as other engaging other in general Labourer tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operate single or tandem trucks with or without attachments, such as; salt and sand spreader and snow plow equipment. (May not require a wingman during winter maintenance months). Operate heavy equipment such as grader, sweeper, loader, bucket truck, backhoe, mini-ex, and tri-axle. Operate equipment including leaf pickup equipment, sidewalk plows, one-ton trucks and other light to medium equipment. Perform year-round maintenance including sanding and plowing of sidewalks, roads, municipal lots, leaf pickup and tar & chip repairs. Perform other general municipal maintenance duties as may be assigned in accordance with departmental and corporate objectives. Work as part of a team engaging in all aspects of maintenance operations of municipal infrastructure including but not limited to street sweeping, storm sewer or culvert repairs, ditching, material hauling, road repairs, winter control, minor construction projects, and park maintenance. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, applicable legislations, regulations and departmental polices/procedures/practices and operational guidelines and perform safe work practices. Performs other related duties, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

Qualifications and Requirements

Secondary school diploma required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience with medium and/or heavy equipment (depending on class), preferably in the Maintenance or Construction field. Valid Class "DZ" driver's license with minimum two (2) to three (3) years of experience with updated medical and drivers extract. General aptitude and proficiencies in operating vehicles and mechanized equipment. Proven ability to work independently or as a team member. Ability to perform light and heavy lifting. Good knowledge of road maintenance and operations, traffic control procedures, equipment maintenance and operation and MOE & MTO regulations/guidelines. Civil construction experience including, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and lateral installation. Available for emergency, on-call, and after-hours response. Conscientious, with attitude and manner to serve and deal with the public.

Effort/Physical Demands

Physical demand requires potentially long periods of standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, or lifting. Frequent walking, standing, and periods of driving. Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

Working Conditions


----------------------

Work in extreme outside conditions (heat/cold). Frequently work near moving mechanical equipment and parts. Working forty (40) hours per week. Winter maintenance shifts may include the following schedules, with some on-call and weekend work depending on weather conditions (subject to change): + 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
+ 3:30pm to 12:00am, Monday to Friday
+ 12:00am to 8:30am, Monday to Friday
Summer schedules may consist of four 10-hour shifts, with some weekend work as needed (subject to change). Will be required to work on an on-call basis.
