Job Description

The Tunneling Company offers a range of fit-to-purpose tunneling solutions, including: Microtunneling, Guided Boring, Down-the-Hole Hammer, Auger Boring, Pipe Ramming and more. We manage the entire process from pre-planning and design through to construction.


We are currently seeking a skilled and driven Equipment Operator to join our team.

This position will report to the Field Supervisor and to the Operations Manager and is based out of Kamloops, BC with travel opportunities around the AB & BC area.


Responsibilities and Duties




Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public. Safely operate heavy equipment in terms of

providing hoisting support

and earth work. Demonstrated experience in hoisting operations, including adherence to critical lift plans and coordination with rigging personnel to safely handle heavy or complex lifts. Operate various sized excavators according to owner and manufacturer specifications. Perform pre-operational inspection/ preventative maintenance on equipment according to owner and manufacturer specifications. Report defects or needed repairs immediately to supervisor. Record all details of inspections, maintenance and other work done while in the field in the machine's log book. Calculate equipment capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting. Communicate effectively with crew via hand signals and radio communications. Advise workers of potential hazards within the jobsite. Participate in safety management system by joining meetings, completing FLHA's and Hazard ID's Perform labour duties and assist in drilling activities when required.

Experience and Training Requirements




Required




5+ years demonstrated experience in hoisting operations, including adherence to critical lift plans and coordination with rigging personnel to safely handle heavy or complex lifts. Valid Class 5 Driver Licence with a clean drivers abstract & reliable transportation Ability to travel to various job sites across AB & BC and work out of town for 24 days at a time Required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test prior to employment Safety tickets including, but not limited to: Standard First Aid, Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST), Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Fall Protection and Ground Disturbance 201



Asset




Class 1 Licence Experience in Trenchless Construction and/or Pipeline Construction industry



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




Ability to work well with others as well as independently. Strong work ethic and positive team attitude. Perform moderately heavy physical labour under all types of outdoor weather conditions. Follow oral and written instructions; record and maintain accurate records. Learn and follow all safe work practices.
