We are seeking an experienced Equipment Design Engineer to support capital projects, manufacturing improvements, and internal engineering initiatives across our production environment. This role is hands-on and cross-functional, combining mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing engineering to improve capacity, efficiency, safety, and reliability.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to design, implement, and commission equipment, tooling, and systems that directly support manufacturing operations and new product development.
Responsibilities
Equipment & System Design
Plan, design, and execute internal engineering projects related to manufacturing expansion, process improvement, and equipment upgrades
Design mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment with a focus on reliability, serviceability, and efficient use of space
Manage projects from concept through design, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and handover
Create and maintain engineering drawings, schematics, and documentation suitable for fabrication and assembly
Support automation and machine integration, including control logic and human-machine interfaces where applicable
Translate high-level operational needs into practical, buildable engineering solutions
Coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders as required
Track project materials, lead times, and build status
Support internal reporting requirements related to engineering projects and technical development
Manufacturing Support & Optimization
Collaborate directly with production teams to identify bottlenecks, quality issues, and improvement opportunities
Develop tooling and process solutions that improve repeatability, reduce scrap, and enhance product quality
Support testing and validation activities for new products, processes, and equipment
Provide troubleshooting support for manufacturing equipment and processes
Collaboration & Mentorship
Work closely with junior engineers and technologists, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight
Delegate appropriate design tasks while maintaining overall technical accountability
Participate in cooperative design efforts across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls)
Contribute to ongoing improvement of engineering standards, practices, and documentation
Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and best practices
Qualifications
Required
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
Proven experience delivering internal engineering or manufacturing-focused projects
Strong hands-on engineering capability across mechanical and/or electrical systems
Ability to work effectively in a production environment
Solid understanding of industrial safety and applicable codes and standards
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience with industrial control systems, automation, or machine integration
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, tooling design, and test equipment
Experience working with vendors, fabricators, and contractors
Ability to mentor junior engineering staff
