Unity Health Toronto is embarking on a multi-year digital, clinical transformation project to implement a new electronic patient record solution across all sites. The Electronic Patient Record (EPR) project is a pillar of enabling exemplary patient experience and quality of care and therefore see this not as an information technology initiative, but as one founded in clinical transformation and care redesign.

Job Profile:

The role of the EPR Integration Specialist is the design, build and maintenance of interfaces that support integration of systems within and outside of the EPR. They coordinate analysis sessions to identify interface business needs, create technical designs, and own issue triage necessary to implement and support their assigned interfaces. They work closely with the EPR applications specialists, IT applications specialists, and technical teams to ensure that interfaces meet the needs of our end users.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Application Integration
  • Managing the entire implementation cycle of interfaces, web services, and industry?standard APIs (such as FHIR), including analysis, design, specification, implementation, go?live, and support
  • Working closely with application teams, subject matter experts, and third?party application experts to determine business needs, document requirements, and configure interfaces per the requirements.
  • Partnering with these groups to diagnose and resolve interface?related issues and supporting ongoing application projects as needed.
  • Reviewing, triaging, and resolving day?to?day interface errors, including coordinating with technical teams, application teams, and third?party system representatives as necessary
  • System Administration
  • Planning and executing database backup and recovery.
  • Assist System and Database Administrators with fine tuning activities and preventative maintenance;
  • Systems monitoring to maintain operations at peak performance on servers;
  • Create and modify database objects such as tables, views, indexes;
  • Performing data management including:
  • Table uploads, reloads, and reorganizations;
  • Table backup and recovery and management of table space.
  • Data Migration & Conversion
  • Analyzing and manipulating large volumes of external data into an appropriate format for filing into the EPR
  • Supporting the data conversion team in the entire cycle of one or more data types for legacy data conversion, including analysis, data element mapping, testing and validation, error resolution, and production loads
  • Developing interfaces, reports, extracts and connectors to support data migration and conversion
  • Understanding EPR data structures and documenting technical specifications detailing target data elements
  • Report writing, script and extract development
  • Design and program reports to support business and clinical needs;
  • Execute SQL queries and write scripts to generate reports and data extracts;
  • Perform complex data analysis to support day-to-day operations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business or other related field from an accredited post-secondary institution and/or five or more years\xe2\x80\x99 equivalent experience;
  • Experience with data analysis, design and implementation, including experience working with end-users to gather and interpret requirements;
  • Experience supporting and/or implementing moderately complex integration projects; hospital and/or other health care application experience preferred;
  • Certification in MS SQL, MCDBA or MCSE or MCSA SQL 2012 required.
  • Solid administration understanding of Linux, MS Windows, Unix.
  • Extensive knowledge about even driven systems, schema, orchestration, mapping, and ESB exception handling;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in:
  • Various architectures and protocols such as MOM, XSLT, SOA, UDDI, EDA, REST, XML, FTP, WSDL, HTTP, and SOAP;
  • Databases using Oracle and SQL Server development; Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer preferred.
  • Data Warehouse theory and application data structures.
  • Java/JEE, .NET Programming and frameworks;
  • Integration frameworks;
  • SOA messaging patterns;
  • Secure transmissions, digital certificates, and PKI;
  • Data architecture and application architecture;
  • Health Level 7 (HL7) protocol;
  • Industry standard APIs including FHIR
  • PHI scope and sensitivities;
  • Knowledge of work flow concepts and ability to read work flow design documents;
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary and high performance team environment, with colleagues representing technical, clinical and medical expertise;
  • Good logical and objective analytical skills and ability to use sound judgment;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong investigation, prioritization, and organization skills;
  • Good customer service and relationship management skills;
  • Good change leadership skills;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
