Yukon University's Continuing Studies division is seeking a committed Educator/Coordinator to design and deliver applied training in event coordination and office administration, with a strong emphasis on northern and Indigenous workplace contexts.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about hands-on teaching, relationship-centred learning, and supporting students to gain practical, job-ready skills for administrative, community, and event-based careers.

Teach & Coordinate

Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in:

o Professional communication, customer service and interpersonal skills

o Office procedures, records management, and basic archival practices

o Digital communication, scheduling, and virtual meeting tools

o Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

o Professional writing (emails, agendas, meeting minutes)

o Event planning:

logistics, vendor coordination, budgeting and timelines

o Risk management and on-site event operations

o Cultural and protocol awareness for events involving First Nations governments, Elders, and community partners

Develop, update, and maintain curriculum and instructional materials that reflect Yukon First Nations teaching and learning principles. Recruit and coordinate guest mentors and casual instructors when required.

Support Students & Provide Mentorship

Build strong relationships with learners and community members. Offer individualized mentorship to support student progress, confidence, and skill development. Coordinate with YukonU supports such as admissions, counselling services, and learning assistance. Maintain accurate student and program records.

Program Coordination & Community Engagement

Coordinate weekly workshop logistics, scheduling, materials, and instructor availability. Work closely with YukonU staff to ensure administrative requirements are completed (casual hire forms, materials purchasing, timesheets). Collaborate with First Nations governments, Elders, steering committees, community partners, and other YukonU departments. Host visitors and provide updates on program activities and community impacts.

Knowledge & Experience

Strong instructional skills, including curriculum development and adult education strategies. Experience working in cross-cultural contexts, ideally with Yukon First Nations communities and adult learners. Knowledge of northern, multicultural issues and community-based learning approaches. Experience with program coordination and applied training delivery. Strong communication skills--oral, written, and interpersonal. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.

Consideration may be given to those with an appropriate blend of education and experience.

Yukon University is committed to the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply; however qualified candidates who self-identify as Yukon first Nations, as well as Metis, Inuit or other Indigenous ancestry will be given priority.
