The Environment team in Burnaby is looking for a Field Technician to assist in environmental investigation programs such as environmental drilling investigation, soil, groundwater and soil vapour sampling. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technicians and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The position will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects with a focus on field work including subcontractor coordination. This is a full-time role.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.

+ May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.

+ Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.

+ Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :
+ Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar

+ Willing to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel

+ Valid and unrestricted driver\xe2\x80\x99s license

Preferred Qualifications :
+ 2+ year of knowledge/experience in:
+ Groundwater Monitoring \xe2\x80\x93 purging and sample collection from monitoring wells

+ Drilling \xe2\x80\x93 environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation

+ Soil sampling \xe2\x80\x93 field screening, soil sample collection procedures

+ Field notes \xe2\x80\x93 taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

+ Safety \xe2\x80\x93 leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.

+ Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others

+ Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.

+ Strong communication skills

+ Critical thinking and problem solving

+ Ability to learn new tasks

+ Flexible and hard working

+ Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
