As the Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading a diverse environmental team in both Alberta and Saskatchewan to develop technical risk assessments and provide expert advice on contaminated sites. You will bring expertise to the high-risk contaminated Oil & Gas sectors, overseeing various assessments, reviews, and remediation programs to ensure regulatory compliance. Your role will involve providing technical support, coordinating with Project Managers and Environmental Advisors, and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of projects. You will uphold a high standard of service delivery and maintain a strong client-centered focus, while prioritizing safety and clear communication. The ideal candidate will have the capacity to mentor and train the team they support. What would you be doing?

  • Provide leadership to a diverse team of environmental professionals, overseeing multi-location office employees in both Alberta and Saskatchewan, and client environmental portfolios to foster a technically competent risk and contaminated sites team, including orientation, performance management, employee engagement, and succession planning.
  • Lead, coordinate, and execute research during Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments to identify required further actions, and investigate during Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments through site visits and soil sample collection.
  • Oversee various assessments, including Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, Site-Specific Risk Assessments, Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST or Equivalent) Assessments, and Directive PNG045 Assessments, along with data gap analysis and supplemental environmental assessment design.
  • Manage small and large-scale in-situ and ex-situ remediation programs, as well as groundwater monitoring programs involving installations, development, tracking, and modeling.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance to employees involved in supporting assigned projects and coordinate with Program and Project Managers, field employees, and Senior Environmental Advisors to scope projects, communicate with clients, and deliver reports.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities within required guidelines, ensuring all tasks adhere to established protocols and standards.

Qualifications
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in upstream or downstream environmental consulting, effectively leading a diverse and technical team of professionals.
  • Oversee environmental assessment and remediation projects, including contractor supervision and sample selection for laboratory analysis, with experience in risk-based guideline development and toxicology considered an asset.
  • Hold a University Degree in environmental science/engineering or a related discipline, with eligibility for or possession of a current professional designation as a Professional Agrologist, Biologist, Chemist, or Engineering/Geoscience, along with Tier 2 SST certification.
  • Demonstrate expertise in provincial environmental regulations, policies, guidelines, or technical guidance documents, including Alberta Tier 1 guidelines, Alberta Tier 2 modifications and risk assessment, and PNG045 Acknowledgement of Reclamation for Sodium Chloride Impacted Sites.
  • Exhibit exceptional leadership and influencing skills, along with strong business and financial acumen, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in planning and controlling work in a multi-project, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, prioritize work, adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic team environment, and maintain a proactive approach to problem solving with a strong initiative, while emphasizing health and safety and sustainability.
