Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly environmental inspections, review the findings with appropriate managers, follow up with action items, provide guidance on environmental compliance and due diligence; develop/implement compliance programs; provide consultation to internal groups in managing environmental risks and due diligence; and assist management in ensuring a minimal impact of our activities on the environment by monitoring and reporting on the environmental performance of Rollstamp.
  • Coordinate Magna inspections, audits, ensures that action plans are completed.
  • Conduct routine and specific audits to assess Rollstamp environmental performance and report to Management on compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Remain intimately knowledgeable of applicable environmental regulations, and stay up-to-date of regulatory changes and requirements. Ensure all required programs are in place according to applicable Environmental Acts and Regulations.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of programs/procedures to ensure all activities are in compliance with municipal, provincial and federal environmental regulations and Magna\'s policies/practices, and to reduce/eliminate environmental incidents.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; managing environmental issues, managing air permit applications, coordination routine environmental sampling/testing, monitoring the regulations for changes and developments that impact Rollstamp\'s operations.
  • Provide input to the Engineering, purchasing and other departments during project design, and the stages of development/implementation of projects with an impact on the environment.
  • Manage the development of regulatory reporting requirements for site operations and ensure all reports are updated/completed and forwarded to appropriate government bodies including Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA\'s), ESDM reports and Written Annual Summaries, annual NPRI and TRA accounting/planning.

  • Ensures Rollstamp\'s Waste Audits and Waste Reduction Workplans are updated annually.
  • Solid Waste Management and Diversion: responsible for researching, planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring waste management procedures, programs and services; auditing and monitoring program trends; developing strategies for reduction, reuse, recycling, and continuous improvement, promotion and education; and developing and reviewing program, bylaws and policies for the Rollstamp to meet the Region\'s objectives for sustainable waste management.
  • Hazardous Waste Management - Update hazardous material inventory annually. Handle and manage Waste Manifest system and HWIN account. Including waste characterization, classification, proper labeling and disposal.
  • Manage Environmental Emergency plans (Spills Response Plan/Team); Act as facilitator during environmental incidents to direct team to contain materials onsite and where necessary clean up offsite impacts; Ensure spill control equipment is available, and staff are trained on the use and proper cleanup from spill events; review incidents and recommend improvements to the Emergency Response Plan; Report environmental incidents to MOECC, local municipalities, and Magna.
  • Identify areas where environmental approvals are needed early in the development process for Rollstamp initiatives, and capital projects.
  • Manage Rollstamp\'s Environmental Management System (ISO14001); Ensure Rollstamp\'s EMS is fully implemented and maintained; Manage audit programs, Lead Internal Auditors, schedule and conduct internal audits and guide them through EMS audits; coordinate external audits, including meetings, guiding auditor and following up on recommendations; implement environmental management programs to ensure continual improvement of environmental performance.

  • Conduct routine and specific audits to assess Rollstamp environmental performance and report to Management KOI on conformance with Environmental Management System targets.
  • Recommend alternative corrective actions and monitor actions taken to improve environmental performance. Lead meeting/process of CAR and CI\'s related to EMS.
  • Review and maintain an up-to-date list of Environmental Aspects.
  • Deliver and/or arrange for training of environmental programs and newsworthy items; Provide training to Rollstamp employees on environmental procedures.
  • Ensure all EMS documentation, reports, and records are completed and retained on file.
  • Initiate reviews of environmental monitoring to promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that Rollstamp environmental policy is respected by other employees when they purchase new products and supplies.
  • Ensure all environmental related initiatives are implemented.
  • Ensure Industrial sampling and monitoring (including calibrations) meet Environmental Management System (EMS) Standards.

  • Determine when non-routine samples should be collected for due diligence from environmental incidents.
  • Determine when EMS procedures are not being followed and recommend corrective actions to the management; Recommend improvements to existing procedures, and monitoring systems to improve environmental performance, behaviors and attitudes.
  • Coordinate and conduct orientation sessions for all new hires and transferred employees.
  • Maintain and update orientation checklist as required (where it applies to the Environment) and implement for all existing employees as well as all new hires.
  • Establish relative environmental training for each job and coordinate environmental training for all levels in the organization.
  • Promote environmentalism around Rollstamp and encourage employees to be environmentally responsible.
  • Liaison to Management pertaining to environmental issues.
  • Comply with Section 28 of the OHSA.
  • Available to work flexible hours, must provide coverage to all shifts on a regular basis.
  • Perform all other duties as required.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations as outlined in the Rollstamp Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to all applicable Business Operating Systems Procedures.
  • Any other reasonable request made by Management.
Key Responsibilities cont\'d
  • Support development and implementation of sustainable energy initiatives, projects, procedures, plans and programs for Rollstamp facilities.
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting towards development of energy targets, data entry on Metrix and prepare monthly reports to Management and Magna, and based on Mafact requirements; provide regular progress reports to the Energy Manager.
  • Research, evaluate and report on new energy technologies and provides recommendations to the team; Monitor, evaluate and provide support to energy initiatives, and ongoing development of Energy and Greenhouse Gas Management Program.
  • Collaborate with energy champions/manager on energy optimization opportunities, tracking energy use; Coordinate the measurement and verification of energy management project deliverables.
  • Implement Employee Awareness Program - building an Energy Conservation Culture; demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all Rollstamp staff.
  • Facilitate monthly energy team meetings, prepare agendas and minutes; Assign responsibilities and follow up actions; Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all energy reports, billings, and other documents as required.
  • Take initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
  • Manage consultants and contractors as required.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • University degree in environmental science, engineering or related field (a graduate degree in environmental science or engineering would be an asset).
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in the environmental field.
  • Must be fluent in English (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to delegate work and monitor the work of students, consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize in order to meet project deadlines.
  • Previous experience in regulatory reporting and good understanding of Federal, Provincial and Municipal Environmental regulations, policies and procedures with emphasis on waste management, wastewater sampling, spills clean-up and reporting, and data interpretation.
  • ISO 14001 Lead Audit Certified and in-depth knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and Auditing procedures.
  • Interest in environmental issues relating to the manufacturing industry.
  • Must be well organized and conscientious with ability in team work, initiative, self-management, accountability, and flexibility.
  • Results oriented with strong research, evaluation, analytical, planning, and presentation skills.
  • Strong skills in conducting in-depth cost/benefit analysis and program development.
