Environmental Specialist.Location: Regina, SK

Salary: $29.55 - $43.04
Type of Position: Permanent Full Time
Closing Date: 07/09/2024.POSITION OVERVIEWDevelops, coordinates, interprets, implements and trains employees on SaskTel\'s environmental programs. Develops and maintains due diligence processes to enable compliance with all environmental regulations, improve environmental performance and promote continual improvement. Provides leadership support to SaskTel Holdco operations.TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

  • Administers and implements the ongoing development of SaskTel\'s Environmental Management System (EMS) which is based on the ISO 14001 standard.
  • Reviews and analyzes amendments to environmental legislation for potential impacts on corporate operations.
  • Performs workplace audits and inspections to ensure regulatory and company policy compliance.
  • Directs and instructs staff on responsibilities in regards to environmental legislation and internal procedures.
  • Performs various environmental related testing and manages hazardous waste disposal/storage areas.
  • Interfaces and represents SaskTel with external environmental organizations, regulators and committees.
  • Develops, supports and tests Environmental Emergency Response Plans.
  • Provides response support and direction on hazardous spills/releases.
  • Contributes written submissions to support the Environmental Communication Plan.
  • Supports, attends, trains and assists SaskTel Environment committees.
  • Investigates environmental incidents and assists in the development of operational controls to reduce the likelihood of future incidents.
  • Co-ordinates and improves existing programs for SaskTel\'s Significant Environmental Aspects in addition to developing new programs when needed.
  • Develops and maintains processes for reporting Environment and Sustainability key performance indicators.
  • Develops and recommends improvements to existing programs, policies and facilities to reduce SaskTel\'s environmental footprint.
  • Coordinates the disposal of hazardous materials, this includes handling, sorting and storage of materials prior to disposal.
QUALIFICATIONS * Degree in Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Biology or Environmental Science OR Technical Diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology, Ecology, Biology or Environmental Science with 3 years current experience in an environmental field.
  • Eligible to enter into a Designated Professional Association (P.Eng, A.Sc.T., EP, P.Ag., etc.) in Saskatchewan.
  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation.
  • Working knowledge of the legal regulations regarding construction, buildings, chemicals, vehicles, heavy equipment, excavations, hazardous substances and WHMIS.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
  • Working knowledge of environmental principles, auditing, systems, practices and procedures related to the telecommunications industry.
  • Ability to lead, direct and instruct others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence and persuade others.
  • Good facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Valid Driver\'s License.
