Are you someone who has a real passion for wanting to help others? Are you looking to showcase your knowledge, skills and abilities in a dynamic environment? Island Health knows that it is our team members who make a difference, deliver care and define our organizational culture.

Island Health is currently looking for dedicated and dynamic Environmental Services Workers (ESW) throughout our service areas. Here is your opportunity to be part of a diverse team while providing an extremely important and essential service in an interesting and unique way. You can be an instrumental part of this team and make a real difference!

As the largest employer on Vancouver Island, we employ 27,000 employees, 2,400 physician partners and host more than 2,500 volunteers who provide health services to over 850,000 residents of Vancouver Island and adjacent coastal communities. These services are offered through hospitals, clinics, health centres, community-based health units, long term care and assisted living facilities in one of the most enjoyable regions of the world. With access to the outdoors all year long due to our temperate climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, this breath-taking place is our little piece of paradise in the Pacific Northwest.

Island Health offers programs and services on the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth and Kwakwaka\'wakw peoples. As an organization, we are deeply committed to cultural safety and humility and we demonstrate this through our actions to address Indigenous-specific racism, systemic racism and the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

Some of our communities include:

Coast Salish Territory

  • Salt Spring Island: A laid back, close-knit community flourishing with artisans and spectacular ocean scenery.
  • Nanaimo: Located on central Vancouver Island, this harbour city is a convenient access point to the mainland. Head to the beach and watch the cruise ships pass.

  • Cowichan Valley: Easy access to Victoria and Nanaimo. This region boasts award winning wineries, thriving farmlands and year-round markets.

  • Tofino: A world-recognized destination for surfing and a storm-watching hot spot, famous for old growth rain forests and long stretches of pristine beaches.
Kwakwaka\'wakw Territory:
  • Alert Bay, Port Alice, Port Hardy, and Port McNeill (Mt. Waddington region): Pristine and rugged landscapes with rich culture, abundant wildlife and countless recreational experiences, waiting to be discovered.
  • Campbell River: Dubbed the "salmon capital of the world", this seaside town is surrounded by hiking and biking trails that challenge your sense of adventure.
  • Comox Valley: Here, you can ski and golf in the same day! Situated between the Strathcona Provincial Park and the Straight of Georgia, this is an ideal spot to raise a family.
