Role description:
Arcadis is currently seeking to hire an Intern for our Markham, Ontario office. The successful candidate will coordinate and execute activities assigned by Project Managers pertaining to the design, coordination and implementation of environmental projects including environmental site assessments, groundwater monitoring and sampling programs, and remediation projects. This includes conducting site visits and inspections, monitoring and supervising drilling, water treatment and/or other remediation activities, preparing field notes and collecting soil and groundwater samples. Other responsibilities include maintaining knowledge and familiarity with provincial regulatory frameworks, diligent interpretation of environmental data, evaluation of sample results, and participation in various marketing activities (assisting in proposal preparation, obtaining quotations etc.).
This position is based in Markham, Ontario. Work primarily comprises field level environmental sampling and assessment activities at commercial and industrial sites. Arcadis has a strong collaborative culture so this will be an opportunity for you to use, learn, and apply foundational skills in the environmental field.
Role accountabilities:

• Interest and commitment to expand digital skill set to adapt to evolving industry practices
• Knowledge/experience in the areas of data science, data management, and/or geographic information systems (GIS)
• Demonstrated proficiency in a range of desktop applications, with an emphasis on a strong skill set in Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge/experience in environmental sampling preferred
• Ability to apply standard engineering/scientific subject matter to problem solving
• Experience overseeing subcontractors in an industrial or construction setting

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential, along with effective time management skills. A valid drivers license is required, with compensation provided for work-related travel. The candidate must also be committed to Health and Safety excellence.
Additionally, the role requires the ability to work independently in a field setting for extended periods, with some assignments taking place in remote areas. The candidate's willingness to adapt to these conditions is crucial for success in this position.
Qualifications & Experience:

• Working towards a degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Environmental Sciences; or Diploma in environmental technology preferred.

The salary range for this position is $20-$25 per hour. The base salary represents Arcadis hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
