Your Impact:

Jacobs is currently looking to hire an entry to intermediate Environmental Planner based out of the western Canadian offices of either (Calgary, Vancouver or Edmonton) to join our dynamic team. This position provides technical leadership and guidance to our multi-disciplinary (environment practitioners) teams during the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure projects in western Canada relative to regulatory requirements, environmental due diligence, and planning. The successful candidate will join our Global Environmental Solutions group and will work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to oversee the environmental permitting and planning efforts of government and privately owned infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support environmental planning and permitting work with a multi-disciplinary team throughout the life cycle of a project.
  • Oversee the preparation of environmental assessments, permit and regulatory filings, and environmental management plans.
  • Coordinate and provide technical writing support for environmental assessments for projects and programs. Includes coordinating the completion of subject specific environmental studies.
  • Supporting engagement efforts with Indigenous communities, stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with members of the public, government and non-government communities, associations, tenure holders and Indigenous communities.
  • In a collaborative manner, develop and expand our client portfolio, including support for Business Development and proposal efforts
  • Develop staff through on-the-job mentorship.

  • B.Sc. (required) or M.Sc. (preferred) in a Natural Resources related field (biology, ecology, forestry, or geography)
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of related experience in the natural resources sector in Canada, preferably in BC and in a consulting environment.
  • Strong technical writing skills is required.
Ideally You\xe2\x80\x99ll Also Have / be able to:
  • Familiarity with environmental acts, such as the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, National Energy Board Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and the Public Lands Act is considered an asset.
  • Experience seeing major projects from planning through construction considered an asset.
  • Diverse experience and enjoy a challenge and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience working on Provincially regulated projects in Alberta and British Columbia, including a strong understanding of permitting energy development projects regulated by the Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Environment and Parks, BC Oil and Gas Commission, and BC Environmental Assessment Office.
  • Experience working on federally regulated energy projects in Western Canada, including experience working on projects regulated by the National Energy Board.
  • Construction based environmental monitoring experience is an asset.
  • Requires a high level of initiative and problem-solving.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills with proficiency in written and spoken English to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • A demonstrated interest in environmental assessments and regulatory systems in Canada with a desired to grow in the field.
