Job Description

Position Summary

Environmental Planner is responsible for determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants by conducting tests and field investigations.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Addresses environmental issues by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives. Site support to daily operations and mine planning group regarding environmental compliance. Assist in strategizing, developing, and managing reclamation planning processes. Ensure and maintain compliance with provincial and federal environmental legislation. Build and maintain relationships with local land owners, community groups and regulatory bodies. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Oversee environmental contractors onsite and assist in the coordination and execution of technical studies throughout the mine site in support of regulatory requirements. Review and interpret maps, aerial photos, data and field investigation reports. Prepare information and data for various projects and or regulatory requirements through the use of excel spreadsheets, AutoCAD, word documents and presentations as required. Perform related work as required.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel.



Typical Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.



Education and Experience

A university or technical degree/diploma in Environmental Science, Mining, Civil, Engineering, in a related field Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

5A driver's license

Skills/Competencies

Demonstrate the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of safety, environment and health practices and procedures. Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). Be able to set objectives which are realistic, but aggressive. Strong time management and organizational skills. Very strong communication skills (verbal and written). Skills with computer drafting software, data manipulation and presentations considered an asset. Adapt effectively to tight deadlines, heavy workloads and sudden frequent changes in priority in order to accomplish objectives. Be a highly motivated self-starter, possessing good interpersonal and organizational skills in a team environment.
