Environmental Monitor

THE OPPORTUNITY

Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. (\xe2\x80\x9cTriton\xe2\x80\x9d) is seeking a highly-motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Monitor to join a well-established team of environmental professionals based out of our Terrace office.

This position will appeal to individuals with a passion for working outdoors and who thrive in a construction environment. Successful candidates will be part of a team building world class projects that balance environmental protection with development. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitoring compliance with applicable environmental requirements and commitments, including Environmental Protection Plans and work plan
  • Recommending best practices and mitigation measures to manage environmental concerns during construction
  • Recommending erosion and sediment control measures and monitoring installation
  • Supervising soil salvage and handling procedures
  • Conducting wildlife surveys, migratory and breeding bird/nest surveys, and amphibian salvages
  • Monitoring water quality and conducting fish salvages
  • Responding to environmental emergencies on construction sites
  • Performing equipment inspections for fluid leaks and assisting with spill prevention and response
  • Preparing daily and weekly summary reports
  • Attending project and safety meetings
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, and contractors
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSc. or technical diploma in biology, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, or related degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an environmental monitor or inspector in a construction environment
  • P. Biol., R.P.Bio., P.Ag., or equivalent registration with a professional regulatory body is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of construction site erosion and sediment control measures and best management practices
  • Multi-jurisdictional knowledge of environmental regulations, and policies to ensure project-specific compliance
  • Experienced in fish salvage, water quality monitoring, pre-construction bird sweeps, and amphibian salvage
  • Adept in the operation and maintenance of required field equipment
  • Ability to identify and mitigate issues rapidly to ensure compliance within an active construction work environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with clients, contractors, agencies, and co-workers
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills
  • Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be willing to work on a 2-week work rotation
  • Valid driver\'s license from a Canadian province or Territory acceptable for driving alone and with passengers in a work setting
  • Experience operating off-highway vehicles
