Job Overview





The EHS Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the North Bay & Mississauga manufacturing and warehouse sites. This role ensures compliance with corporate and local regulatory requirements, fosters a strong safety culture, and partners with the Global EHS team. The EHS Manager will manage and investigate workplace incidents, provide oversight and training for incident prevention, ensure safety compliance, prepare facility inspections, and strive for continuous improvement efforts in EHS performance.



Key Responsibilities



Manage and oversee the EHS function for Ontario manufacturing plants and multiple warehouse locations across Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan to ensure compliance with all applicable provincial, federal, and corporate EHS requirements.

Monitor, interpret, and communicate changes in provincial legislation and regulatory requirements (Ontario OHSA, Quebec CNESST, Saskatchewan OHS Regulations, Transport of Dangerous Goods, environmental regulations, etc.).

Lead and support incident investigations across all sites, ensure corrective actions are implemented, validated, and closed, and monitor trends for continuous improvement. Facilitate a strong safety culture and promote continuous improvement aligned with corporate EHS principles and ISO / CSA standards. Establish, implement, and continually improve EHS management systems, programs, and procedures applicable to both manufacturing and warehouse operations. Ensure risk assessments, hazard analyses, and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are completed, regularly reviewed, and documented according to provincial requirements. Ensure proper selection, use, inspection, and maintenance of PPE; provide training and ensure compliance with CSA/ANSI standards. Conduct and/or verify site safety orientations for employees, contractors, and visitors; ensure contractor management processes are followed at each location. Maintain and implement effective emergency response and crisis management programs, including faciltiy-specific emergency plans. Schedule, coordinate, and/or deliver required safety training (e.g., WHMIS/HAZCOM, manual handling, forklift, working at heights, first aid, emergency response, lockout/tagout, fire safety) for all sites. Support capital projects, equipment installations, layout changes, and new warehouse operations to ensure EHS considerations are integrated early and effectively. Support internal corporate audits and conduct local inspections, audits, and safety tours; track findings and oversee resolution.

Act as primary contact for WSIB (Ontario), CNESST (Quebec), and WCB (Saskatchewan) for workplace injuries, modified duty programs, and reporting accuracy.

Ensure SDS management and chemical inventories are maintained at each site in compliance with WHMIS / GHS requirements.

Coordinate environmental compliance activities such as waste management, hazardous waste manifests, air/water reporting, and spill response.

Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned.

Key Skills & Competencies



Regulatory Knowledge:

Strong understanding of Canadian occupational health & safety legislation across multiple provinces, WHMIS/GHS, CSA standards, TDG, environmental compliance obligations, and workers' compensation requirements.

Leadership:

Proven ability to lead EHS programs across geographically dispersed teams and multiple operations.

Analytical Thinking:

Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, interpret safety data, and apply preventative controls in both manufacturing and warehouse environments.

Communication:

Clear communicator able to coach supervisors, work with regulatory authorities, and deliver training effectively to diverse employee groups.

Team Collaboration:

Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with Operations, HR, Maintenance, and corporate teams.

Technical Proficiency:

Experience with EHS management systems, reporting tools, incident tracking platforms, and standard computer applications.

Problem Solving:

Demonstrated ability to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and influence safe work behaviours in fast-paced industrial settings.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, occupational health & safety, industrial hygiene, or related field. A postgraduate certificate or master's degree in occupational health & safety, environmental management, or industrial hygiene is an asset. CRSP, CSP, or equivalent national certification is strongly preferred.

Experience:



Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience, ideally in manufacturing and/or warehouse operations. Experience supporting multiple sites across different provinces is an asset. Experience with regulatory inspections, WSIB/CNESST/WCB claims management, accident investigations, and EHS program development.

Languages:



Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. French language skills are an asset for supporting the Val-d'Or, Quebec warehouse.
