ERM is hiring an Environmental Field Technician to support pre-construction surveys and environmental monitoring mainly near Smithers, British Columbia, and in northern Canada. In this role, you will lead pre-construction surveys and monitor construction and operational activities at a variety of project sites. This is a full-time (12 hours per day, 84 hours per week, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off), limited-term role with a duration of 4 months, extendable. Training will be provided for client-specific and site-specific safety, security, sampling, and inspection procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead pre-construction surveys including migratory bird nesting surveys (i.e., nest sweeps), amphibian visual surveys and salvages, etc.
Monitor construction and operational activities to support mitigation and protection of wildlife and sensitive environmental features.
Promote safety awareness and the safe performance of our work.
Adhere to data management and quality standards.
Complete daily field reports and communicate clearly with the Project Management team.
Contribute to a positive, professional environment.
SCHEDULE:Shift lengths will vary according to project needs but generally shifts will be two weeks in length with two week breaks between shifts. Shifts may occur over weekends and holidays.
Daily hours will vary depending on the site location and work to be completed; to a maximum of 12-hour days.
Workdays are scheduled as far in advance as possible; however, flexibility is required due to potential last-minute changes.
REQUIREMENTS:Minimum 2 seasons of wildlife field experience.
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Biological or Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
First Aid certification
Wildlife identification skills, including birds by sight and sound.
Ability to walk long distances and carry heavy field equipment.
Ability to work in remote locations in varied weather conditions and on varied terrain.
Effective observational and organization skills; experience documenting detailed technical data an asset.
Adaptability and flexibility.
Effective communication skills.
Proficient in basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) for communication and field reporting.
Proficient in use of Global Positioning System (GPS) units for navigation and data capture.
A valid driver's license and a good driving record; ability to drive to the various project locations; ability to rent a vehicle.
Must be willing to submit to pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Pay Transparency:For the Environmental Field Technician position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $63,000.00 - $80,140.00 CAD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.
