De Beers Group has an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Environmental department at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine. The Environmental Coordinator Position is instrumental in coordinating the collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of environmental data at the Gahcho Kue Mine site. The position is also critical to the communication of departmental objectives and initiatives to site personnel. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot problems. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm. Key responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing a team of environmental technologists;
  • Ensuring the health and safety of site environmental staff, including seasonal department contractors;
  • Developing control programs to reduce both safety and environmental hazards and accidents;
  • Assisting in designing, preparing, implementing and maintaining the mine Environmental Management System;
  • Site sign off of field analysis and shipping;
  • Sign off on field inspections/regulation reports; Identifying potential environmental risks and designing mitigation plans;
  • Inspecting the various sites for environmental compliances and sign off on mitigation plans where required for investigations and accidents;
  • Determines and designs contractor compliance standards for site in line with regulations;
  • Maintaining current, clear and complete documentation, for reference purposes during environmental operations, including regulations and environmental policies;
  • Working with cross-functional groups to maintain monitoring programs and environmental management;
  • Coordinating and verifying work progress, as per the relevant specifications and company environmental systems;
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations and operational projects and permits;
  • Ensuring all environmental risks have been considered; and
  • Delivering environmental advise, assistance and support to environmental staff and management.
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the role is based within the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training department and is in Band GBF7. This is a site based position with a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation.

Qualifications
Formal qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences or Management, Wildlife/Forestry, Chemistry, Mining or Reclamation;
  • Five or more years of relevant technical work experience (mining, reclamation, environmental response);
  • One or more years of supervisory experience with environmental teams and contractors;
  • Familiarity with Federal and Territorial Legislation with focus on resource development permitting process;
  • Proficient skills with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and familiarity with databases;
  • Proficiency in data base management, in particular EHS Monitor Pro products.
  • Ability to develop and maintain solid work relationships across multiple disciplines;
  • Sound judgment, planning, problem solving and decision making abilities;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to write technical reports;
  • Knowledge of outdoors, field work and ability to operate equipment such as snowmobiles, boats etc;
  • Familiarity with remote helicopter operations, including off airport landings and slinging operations; and
  • Ready to work in remote locations, when required.
