MH\xe2\x80\x99s Environmental Business Unit is looking for a Construction Inspector to join our growing Ecology East Team. The successful candidate will provide support to our Ecology team by completing erosion and sediment control (ESC) inspections, water quality monitoring, as well completing species specific reviews which may include Species at Risk (SAR), vegetation, and fish and fish habitat. Additionally, they would have an opportunity to support biologists within our team on a range of environmental inventories and impact assessment projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct environmental inspections at project work sites to ensure conformance with Tender Documents, Erosion and Sediment Control Plans, Design Drawings and Permits/Approvals
  • Review sites for SAR, invasive species, and complete fish salvage works.
  • Record site observations using detailed notes and photo documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with various permit conditions and environmental specifications.
  • Attend regular virtual and site meetings with construction team which may include client, Contractor and environmental regulatory authorities.
  • Complete water quality sampling including pH and turbidity monitoring.
  • Identify and resolve construction related issues and ability to collaborate with Contract Administrator Staff or Contractor.
  • Liaise with Construction teams (CA or Contractor) while ensuring quick turn-around times.
  • Prepare detailed construction inspection summaries following site visits.
  • Balance a workload of multiple projects while developing tracking mechanisms to track project status and ensure inspection visits are completed as needed.
  • Ability to support biologists on an as-needed basis with fieldwork including existing conditions studies for SAR, breeding birds, vegetation, and fish and fish habitat.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in environmental science, biology or a related field with minimum 2+ years of working experience in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) or similar with proven proficiency in inspecting and reporting on the implementation of ESC Plans
  • Accredited with, or working experience to obtain, MTO RAQS for Fisheries Compliance During Construction Contracts and/or Environmental Inspection During Construction
  • Working experience with the application and correction of erosion and sediment control measures, reporting deficiencies, and containment of effluent during construction
  • Must be able to review and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work seamlessly with multidisciplinary project teams and execute projects collaboratively.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, inspections, and techniques would be an asset.
  • Working experience technical writing
  • Ability to work on-site for extended periods of time.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Valid G Class driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
