Position Overview
Under the direction of the Facilities Services Manager, the housekeeping aide is responsible for carrying out the standards of operating procedures and methods necessary to maintain a high level of housekeeping and sanitation.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Use floor cleaning equipment as required all carpeting as needed and shampoo carpets, strip and wax floors as required
Dust furniture, shelves and windowsills as needed and per seasonal requirements and schedule
Wash and sanitize sinks, toilets, fixtures, bathroom floors, and unclog toilets when necessary
Clean waste receptacles
Bring recycle containers to designated area for removal and return clean containers to designated areas
Carbolized residents' beds as required or directed
Clean all equipment used and lock in the designated areas at the end of each shift
Report any signs of rodents or insects and any needed repairs to the Support Services Manager as well as broken and damaged items
Recognize and undertake daily cleaning, tidying, and removal of dirty, used items throughout the home
Perform laundry duties including washing and drying clothes, ironing, labelling and folding
Perform other housekeeping duties as required
Skills and Knowledge
OHHA Front Line Worker Course Preferred (or working toward) as a requirement to have certificate for continued employment
Ability to read, follow and give oral and written directions
Ability to take direction, learn procedures and perform routine tasks
Must participate in ongoing educational opportunities and be an active participant of the infection control team
Experience working in a long-term care home an asset
Previous experience in cleaning and sanitation an asset
Working Conditions:
Stand and walk for long periods
Sit for short periods
Bend, stoop, and carry
Push/pull wheeled equipment
Safely transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor's transfer and lift procedures
Ability to use a step ladder
Able to effectively use and handle all large equipment as required for maintaining cleaning standards within the home
Use and clean maintain equipment that are necessary for the cleaning and standards of the home
Work day, evening, night shifts; weekends, holidays and for call-in shifts
Must have an up to date 2 -step TB test
Must possess and pass Police Vulnerable Sector Check and not more than 6 months old if have an existing one.
Staff are required to wear surgical masks properly and N-95 as necessary according to Manor policies.*
