Environment Monitoring Technician This role requires a multidisciplinary approach. In this role you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of a variety of environmental monitoring systems. You will also be required to calibrate these instruments, produce valid and defensible data in accordance with applicable provincial and federal regulations; all while aligning with industry best practices and evolving trends. This role is a full-time postion, that may require extended shiftwork in remote locations. You may be placed within a Camp-based work environment, or hotel accommodations. Duties/Responsibilities
Preform routine maintenance and calibration of down-wind monitoring laboratories, stand-alone remote environmental monitoring systems, meteorological towers and other tools used in the delivery of environmental monitoring services provided by HSE Integrated
Operate mobile down-wind monitoring laboratories, install stand-alone remote environmental monitoring systems, meteorological towers and other applicable sensors used in the delivery of environmental monitoring services provided by HSE Integrated
Produce various types of reports and documents in accordance with provided training, in-house templates, applicable regulations, industry best practices and standard operating procedure
This may include the following:
Install the Carmen monitor as per installation instructions.
Upload and save logs to proper storage location both onsite and remotely.
Calibrate the sensors at the shop or in the field.
Troubleshoot and fix the Carmen monitor on site and in the shop.
Troubleshoot and fix the MET tower on site and in the shop.
Assist in the Research and Development of the Carmen and other wireless gas detection systems.
Install callout systems and troubleshoot.
Calibrate other 3rd party fixed gas detection systems.
Required Qualifications
Two-year college program in environmental monitoring (or equivalent) paired with some field experience applicable to the role
Formal training in instrumentation or gas detection instruments
Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel are essential for this role
High degree of comfort working with technology including computers, programmable logic controllers and data loggers
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
Class 5 drivers license
Ability to operate various types of vehicles, haul trailers and operate manual and power tools.
Ability to diagnose issues with electrical systems, generators and be able to work on mechanical systems and instrumentation. Effective communication of complex technical and scientific principles will also be an essential skill for this role.
Understand ERP manuals and what is expected during an emergency
Understand public safety and compliance monitoring.
Understand the Alberta Ambient Air Guidelines (along with other provinces)
Understand the wireless gas detection and applications to be used.
