The Environment Manager leads the planning, execution, and oversight of Yucwmenlucwu's environmental programs. Reporting directly to the CEO of Splatsin Development Corporation, this role provides strategic and technical leadership while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, advancing sustainable practices, and building strong client and community relationships.
The Manager must be a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with at least 10 years of experience in environmental management. A key responsibility is to mentor and develop biologists on the team, fostering professional growth and strengthening technical expertise across the department.
This is a full-time, permanent position, primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork as required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership - 40%
Develop and implement strategic initiatives for environmental projects, aligning with company goals and values.
Shape the long-term vision for environmental programs, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
Represent the organization in engagements with regulatory authorities, Indigenous communities, industry associations, stakeholders, and the public.
Secure new opportunities, including grant funding, and support organizational growth through business development.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and collaborators, proactively addressing challenges and aligning projects with organizational priorities.
Technical Leadership and Execution - 45%
Lead environmental project planning, permitting, assessments, and compliance monitoring.
Provide expert technical advice and recommendations on environmental issues, ensuring projects meet high standards.
Oversee work plans, budgets, and QA/QC measures to ensure quality and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with Yucwmenlucwu's Safety Management System and applicable quality standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate expertise and deliver innovative project outcomes.
Review and approve timecards, invoicing, and budgets.
People Leadership - 15%
Mentor and coach biologists and environmental staff, supporting technical development and career growth.
Evaluate performance and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
Support recruitment and onboarding of key environmental staff.
Foster a collaborative and supportive workplace that values cultural sensitivity, diversity, and inclusion.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) designation is required.
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in environmental management, including leadership roles.
Proven project management experience with successful delivery of environmental projects on time and within budget.
Strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation, permitting processes, and compliance requirements.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and support professional development of biologists.
Knowledge of First Nations consultation processes and experience working with Indigenous communities.
Strong technical writing, reporting, and communication skills.
Proficiency with environmental monitoring tools, GIS, and related technology.
Valid driver's license with a clean abstract.
