Teachers needed for winter camp (Jan 5 - 16) and ongoing teaching needs at the school downtown Vancouver (SFU) and online.

BC Teacher license preferred to teach BC Curriculum

General English and ESL/ELL experience asset

ECE teaching experience asset

Or other certified teachers preferred. English for Children and ECE, TESOL, TESL

Casual hours or part-time leading to full-time.

Online lessons as needed.

Overview

Duties



Design and deliver innovative lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating instructional design principles and learning technology tools to enhance student engagement. Develop and adapt curriculum materials using AP style guidelines, the Chicago Manual of Style, and other academic standards to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Conduct classroom management with a focus on creating a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere that encourages active participation and respectful behavior. Provide individualized tutoring and mentoring to support students' academic growth in areas such as literacy education, creative writing, and standardized testing preparation. Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, including proofreading exercises, research projects, and literacy assessments. Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain an organized environment conducive to learning while addressing diverse student needs, including special education considerations. Incorporate research skills, library services knowledge, and educational administration practices into instruction to foster independent learning. Engage in ongoing professional development related to higher education teaching methodologies, instructional design, and current trends in journalism, linguistics, math integration, or Montessori approaches as applicable. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development initiatives and participate in school activities such as academic advising sessions or behavior management strategies. Maintain detailed records of lesson plans, student assessments, and instructional outcomes to support continuous improvement efforts.

Experience



Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Linguistics or related field; advanced degrees preferred. Proven classroom experience teaching English or literacy at the secondary or higher education level. Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored for diverse learners. Strong knowledge of AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, proofreading techniques, and copy editing skills. Experience working with students from varied backgrounds including private school settings or special education environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and tutoring strategies for academic success enhancement. Excellent communication skills--both verbal and written--and organizational skills necessary for effective classroom management and collaboration. Ability to mentor students effectively while fostering a supportive learning community focused on literacy education and creative writing pursuits. Knowledge of learning technology tools that facilitate engaging instruction and research activities. Prior experience in higher education teaching or educational administration is advantageous but not required.
