English Teacher, Senior and Middle School

Employment Terms: Full-Time, 8-Month Contract

Start Date: October, 2023

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an English Teacher to work in our Senior and Middle School on a full-time, contract basis. In a community where social-emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusion are key priorities, the successful candidate demonstrates empathy, creativity, strong communication skills and the ability to build a caring rapport with students and colleagues. The successful candidate will be a member of the English and International Languages Department and report to the Instructional Leader for the department.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Using a lens of social-emotional learning, create a class environment that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;

Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;

Fosters a love of language and literature in young people;

Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;

Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;

Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive English curriculum for diverse learners;

Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program curricula, with a focus on inquiry based learning;

Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO and school guidelines;

Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;

Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;

Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;

Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a specialist in English;

Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with I/S qualifications in English;

2 - 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 related teaching experience preferred;

Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;

Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;

A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice;

Experience and/or commitment to incorporating DEI principles into curriculum development and teaching practice;

Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in a laptop and online environment;

Adept at leveraging technology to deliver education program and correspond with students, parents, colleagues and the community at large;

Belief in and alignment to Branksome Hall\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision and values:

Ability to work both independently with little direct supervision as well as be a collaborative team member.
