Job Summary

Feels Like Home Newcomers is looking for a

flexible, adaptable, and creative English Language Instructor

to join our passionate team. In this role, you'll support newcomer refugee adults in building confidence in English through

beginner conversational classes

in a welcoming and supportive environment.

While teaching experience is an asset, it's not required. We provide

curriculum, onsite training, and mentorship

. What matters most is your ability to adapt to learners' needs, think creatively when delivering lessons, and work collaboratively as part of a team.

This is a

part-time position with set hours

tied to class schedules.

Responsibilities

Facilitate

beginner English conversation classes

for newcomer adults. Be

flexible and adaptable

, adjusting lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners. Use creativity to make learning engaging, practical, and relevant to daily life in Canada. Collaborate with the team to deliver lessons, share ideas, and solve challenges together. Create an inclusive classroom where all participants feel welcomed and supported. Work with the team to

plan and lead social events and field trips

, offering learners real-world opportunities to practice English. Participate in team meetings, training, and occasional program activities. Assess student progress through regular evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support their development. Create a positive atmosphere that promotes respect, collaboration, and open communication among participants.

Qualifications

Strong command of spoken and written English. Proven ability to be

flexible, adaptable, and creative

when working with diverse groups. Leadership and facilitation skills, with the ability to encourage and guide adult learners. Commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of refugee and newcomer families. Previous teaching/ESL instruction is an asset but not required (training and mentorship provided).

Second languages such as Tigrinya, Farsi, Dari, French, or Spanish are an asset.

Lived experience as a newcomer or refugee is

highly valued and encouraged
