Responsibilities:
The EAL Support will be responsible for working with students, teachers and educational assistants to develop language programs and will work closely with the Superintendent of Learning.
Duties:
Complete language/literacy informal assessments of students and/or build the capacity of teachers within our division to administer related assessments;
Assist in the development of division goals, data, programs and supports for students with language learning challenges;
Be an effective time manager, instructional planner and skillful at developing and delivering in-service sessions for teachers, administrators, and educational assistants;
Provide action plans, policy and procedure support and direction for EAL students within the school division.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to the vision, mission, principles and goals of the Chinook School Division
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a teacher;
Experience, training, and/or interest in learning the strategies and supports that best suit EAL learners;
Experience and/or training in coordination of and delivery of professional development;
Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
Comfort and ability to work with data and assessment;
An understanding of the strategies and supports that are needed in EAL context;
Interest and ability in working with teachers, co-creating instructional plans to enhance language and literacy skills using varied instructional strategies, the adaptive dimension, the differentiation of instruction, course modifications and adaptations, potential pilot courses within the division, and provincial committee representation;
Demonstrates a commitment to truth and reconciliation;
Demonstrates a commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion;
Certified as a Teacher in good standing in Saskatchewan or the ability to be certified.
