--constantly innovating and improving to deliver the best results for our clients.
If you're looking for an exciting opportunity to grow in a collaborative, forward-thinking team, this is your chance! We are seeking an
Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
with expertise in
electrical distribution system planning, load forecasting, renewable energy integration, and battery storage solutions
to support cutting-edge projects in the evolving energy landscape.
Ready to take the next step in your engineering career? Let's build a better energy future--together!
Position Overview
The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) will work closely with senior engineers and project teams to develop electrical utility distribution system plans. This will include the development of load forecasts and electrical distribution system models. With the evolution of renewable power and battery systems, integration of distributed energy resources along with electric vehicle charge management systems will be a requirement of all new grids.
For planning these systems, an understanding and experience with electrical distribution, renewable energy, and battery energy storage system (BESS) designs, and grid modernization initiatives are all considered an asset. The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience in electrical utility distribution system planning and electrical load forecasting and distribution design, with additional experience or interest in renewable energy, microgrids, BESS solutions, and telecommunications systems.
Key Responsibilities
Distribution System Planning Engineering (Primary Responsibilities)
Develop short range and long range distribution system plans including:
Conduct electrical load forecasting for utilities, communities, and industrial clients, using historical data, predictive modeling, and emerging technology trends
Perform load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies using CYME or similar power system analysis tools
Perform integration system planning for Distributed Energy Resources and Battery Energy Storage systems.
Evaluate system power use and demand side management initiatives.
Prepare short and long-range distribution system planning reports,
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
Electrical and Telecommunication Utility Design (Secondary Responsibilities)
Assist in the design and planning of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4kV-25kV) for utilities, municipalities, and private clients
Conduct underground distribution design, including cable routing, duct bank design, and vault layouts
Assist in the design and integration of fiber optic communication systems within electrical distribution and renewable energy designs.
Support the planning, design, and integration of renewable energy systems (solar, wind, hydro) with utility grids and microgrids
Support the design and modelling of battery energy storage systems (BESS),
Prepare construction packages, including pole line design, conductor sizing, transformer selection, and protection coordination
Perform technical analysis of hybrid energy systems, including distributed energy resources (DER) and demand-side management strategies
Conduct field visits and site assessments to collect data, verify designs, and support project execution
Ensure compliance with CSA, IEEE, and local utility standards for both electrical distribution, telecommunications, and renewable energy projects
