Up to 5 temporary full-time positions for 8 months, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in a civil, mechanical, environmental, electrical or related engineering co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program, commencing in September 2023

With both stages of the Valley Line and the Metro Line extensions currently underway, engineering and construction of the Capital line set to begin, this is an exciting period of rapid growth for Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s transit system. Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s long-term LRT Network Plan balances transportation needs with a commitment to grow green and create a compact, integrated urban environment featuring a high-quality, accessible transportation mode.

The LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch manages a large interdisciplinary team including design engineers, construction managers, contractors, consultants and internal City of Edmonton staff. The successful candidate will be part of the City\'s project management team with the LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch. They must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with project team members on a daily basis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of consultants, contractors, clients and stakeholders
  • Assist with managing document control in accordance with the project management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Attend public engagement sessions and represent the City, as well as the project, in a professional manner
  • Work with external stakeholders including businesses, communities, and institutions to help promote project success
  • Perform field inspections and work with contractors as required during the construction phase of projects
  • Review engineering drawings, manuals, specifications, and technical documents for alignment with industry standards and LRT design guidelines
  • Monitor construction activities and work with the project team to control scope, schedule, quality, and budget
  • Support City staff, external consultants and contractors to meet project objectives in a collaborative manner
  • Conduct research on relevant LRT topics and compile information reports
  • Assist with the development of Project Charters, Project Management Plans, and other project management documentation in alignment with the Project Management Institute guidelines
  • Perform site and safety inspections for construction projects and report to project managers and safety personnel
  • Perform other related duties as required
Note: This position may be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a civil, mechanical, environmental, electrical or related engineering co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks in order to deliver quality work on time
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides etc.)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\'s license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $26.325 - $30.710 (Hourly)
