Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for an Engineering Technologist, Signals to join our team!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Technologist, Signals, you will provide technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspections, diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, overhaul, rebuilding, designing, improving and supporting of all operating systems associated with the specific area. You will ensure requirements and standards are met. You will also conduct operational tests, quality inspections, technical problem solving, equipment performance reviews, quality assurance activities, work method development and database administration.



Other responsibilities of your role will include:


Analyzing, diagnosing, correcting and eliminating failures on highly complex electrical, electronic, computerized and mechanical components comprising the Relay interlocking, SSI, and ATC subway signalling systems Evaluating engineering drawings/specifications associated with the procurement and introduction of new signal equipment, and for the on-going maintenance, repair, overhaul, and rebuilding of the signal system Preparing detailed design revisions in order to resolve design problems, with signal circuits or mechanical systems Reviewing and analyzing event recorder data from multiple systems to identify and diagnose signal system failure events Performing random spot checks of overhauled and calibrated relays as per ISO 9001 requirements Preparing work procedures, coordinating tests, evaluating equipment performance, and researching the use of new equipment and materials Reviewing updates to codes, standards and other legislation, and establishing new work methods and procedures accordingly Determining all required Hazard Identification Risk Analysis (HIRA) for the Signals section Training apprentices, and preparing the associated training materials, documents, and records Creating, revising and administering technical documentation Working at other sites, both indoors and outdoors

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent. It will also consist of the completion of a Signals Technician Apprenticeship Program or Relay & Instrument Technician Program (or equivalent). Your O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as an Engineering Technologist will be considered an asset. Your application will demonstrate several years of directly related work experience. You will have comprehensive knowledge of the subway signal systems, electrical, electronic, network, computerized and mechanical equipment. Your knowledge of vital railroad signal relays, signal input/output and indication systems, electrical/electronic engineering principals, method procedures and practices will be evident in your application. You will have sound knowledge of rail transit signal principles, circuitry, applicable wiring codes/government regulations, safety regulations and procedures, and other legislation/standards applicable to the work of the signals section. Your computer and network knowledge will be demonstrated in your resume. Your application will also reveal your technical report writing skills combined with basic technical design skills in the areas of signal, mechanical, electrical and electronic maintenance and construction. You will have sound judgment, good organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills, and effective oral communications skills. In addition, you will have good research skills and the ability to apply project management concepts. and practices.
