The City of Prince Albert invites applications for the permanent position of Engineering Technician III in the Public Works Department.
The Engineering Technician III, will perform surveying duties, create designs and working drawings for municipal engineering projects, maintain municipal infrastructure information, and assist the planning and engineering staff of the department. The incumbent shall generally work independently to provide services.
Required Qualifications:
-Diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized Technical Institute or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant scope of practice.
-Eligibility for membership as a Professional Technologist or Professional Engineer or a Certified Technician with 5 years direct related experience.
-Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
-Provide surveying services for City projects.
-Process digital and field data to create accurate working drawings, digital terrain and contour models, and subdivision layouts for use in municipal construction, using a variety of computer assisted drafting (CAD) civil software and various engineering computer modelling applications.
-Perform data entry and maintain technical records within databases, spreadsheets and maps. ? Collaborate with the engineering team to understand project requirements and specifications. ? Develop and maintain geographical information system, engineering databases and digital maps.
-Creation of special graphics (signs, logos, certificates) for presentation purposes.
-Prepare and print construction, record and presentation drawings for municipal engineering projects.
-Assist in the design of capital projects, public works and underground utilities infrastructure to the current standards of practice including the TAC (Transportation Association of Canada) Manual of Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads and City of Prince Albert design standards.
-Perform project supervision on subdivision, capital works, and maintenance and utility projects. ? Liaise with other departments regarding special projects.
-Attend to all inquiries through personal, telephone, and/or written communication. ? Follow acts, regulations, bylaws, agreements, policies and procedures.
-Follow regulations, acts and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.
-Perform other related duties as assigned.
Key Knowledge, Technical Skills and Abilities
-Demonstrated ability to operate total station, GPS, transit, level and other survey instruments. ? Considerable knowledge of the standard principles, practices and techniques of the applicable field of Engineering.
-Ability to work with computer assisted drafting (CAD) civil software and various engineering computer modelling applications.
-Ability to create and interpret Engineering plans to ensure compliance with Engineering Drawings, Standards and Master Specifications.
-Working knowledge of current operating systems, spreadsheet, word processing and database applications.
-Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions both verbally and in writing.
-Ability to work with minimal supervision.
-Good organizational skills.
-Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, vendors and the public.
