Astra Design Systems designs, manufactures, and tests overhead light rail cranes and custom lift assists. We are a growing, hands-on team that delivers practical engineered solutions. Our solutions improve ergonomics, safety, and productivity on factory floors.
Role Overview:
In this role, you'll be responsible for creating accurate 2D and 3D engineering drawings, maintaining customer documentation, and assisting with reverse engineering of existing lift assist systems into complete 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
You'll work closely with engineers, project managers, and the shop floor team to ensure every design is clear, manufacturable, and well-documented.
Key Responsibilities:
Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of overhead cranes, jibs, and lift assist devices
Develop and maintain customer documentation packages (drawings, manuals, BOMs, certifications)
Organize project files and maintain revision control
Support standardization of documentation templates and internal drawing procedures
Measure and model existing lift assist systems into 3D CAD for documentation or redesign
Assist engineers with system detailing, component selection, and design validation
Support production and assembly teams with clear, accurate drawings
Produce fabrication, assembly, and customer approval drawings
Update and revise designs as projects evolve
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design & Drafting, or related field
Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills
Experience creating detailed fabrication and assembly drawings
Familiarity with mechanical systems, pneumatics, or light structural design
Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
Ability to work hands-on when required for measurement and verification
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience in manufacturing or mechanical assembly environments
Knowledge of GD&T and industry drawing standards
Exposure to overhead cranes, lifting devices, or ergonomic assist tools
Understanding of file management, BOM systems, and revision control
