The Role: Engineering Manager (Software Delivery & Team Growth)

This is a hybrid, hands-on leadership role designed for experienced engineering managers who thrive at the intersection of team development, technical excellence, and product impact. At Tactable, our Engineering Managers are more than people leaders, they're technical mentors, product collaborators, and delivery enablers who help shape the way we build, scale, and innovate.

You'll lead a high-performing team of software engineers delivering complex products across domains like cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and scalable APIs. As a player-coach, you'll balance mentorship and planning with hands-on technical execution, contributing to codebases, guiding architecture, and removing roadblocks so your team can move fast and build with confidence.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, startup-like environment and is passionate about growing engineers, improving delivery workflows, and building high-quality, user-centric systems.

What You'll Do

Technical & Product Execution

Drive technical decision-making and ensure delivery of scalable, high-quality software Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to shape project roadmaps and execution plans Lead by example with hands-on contributions to backend services, API integrations, and architectural decisions Uphold and improve engineering standards across code quality, testing, CI/CD, and deployment

Process & Collaboration

Lead agile ceremonies and help optimize sprint planning, team velocity, and delivery pipelines Coordinate cross-functional initiatives with product, design, and other engineering teams Proactively remove blockers and ensure consistent delivery on timelines and expectations Build tools, rituals, and workflows that improve team health and engineering throughput

Familiarity with modern frontend technologies (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS) Experience working with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, system design, and scalable web architectures Demonstrated ability to lead projects end-to-end while managing team execution and morale Strong communication and interpersonal skills, you know how to lead with empathy and clarity

Bonus Points For

Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) Experience with workflow orchestration and data tooling (e.g., Airflow, dbt, etc.) Exposure to cloud-native development and containerized environments Experience mentoring engineers in early- to mid-career stages A track record of improving engineering processes and scaling team operations

Why You'll Love This Role

Growth-First Culture:

Whether you're growing as a people leader, technologist, or both, we invest in your goals, not just your outputs.

Real Ownership, Real Impact:

From architecture to hiring decisions, you'll shape both the technical foundation and the team around you.

Tight-Knit Team:

We've built a culture around curiosity, collaboration, and care. We show up for each other, whether it's a product launch or team lunch.

Work That Matters:

We're not building proof-of-concepts, we ship code that powers real businesses and real users at scale.

Hybrid Flexibility:

We're a hybrid-first team with a strong appreciation for in-office collaboration, especially at our downtown Toronto HQ. We encourage in-person presence to foster mentorship, connection, and collaboration.

Why This Might Not Be a Fit

If you're looking for a rigid org structure or top-down management style If you prefer long-term stability over rotating through new challenges and clients If you're not comfortable rolling up your sleeves and contributing technically when needed

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

Salary Range: Competitive and flexible, based on experience and fit for the role. Comprehensive health and dental plan Generous PTO and holidays Laptop & home office equipment provided Career coaching and personalized development plans Regular social events, team outings, and wellness activities
