Engineering Manager Space Manufacturing

Kanata, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

Job Posting

About the Role

We are seeking a strong, people-focused Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in a fast-paced, high-reliability space manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a leader who excels at driving schedules, coordinating technical teams, and ensuring engineering output is correct, complete, and delivered on time.

This leader does not need to be the primary technical authority, as our subject-matter experts fulfill that role. Instead, the Engineering Manager is the operational driver who ensures the team executes effectively and professionally.

This role is designed with long-term succession in mind and offers the potential to grow into future senior leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team while fostering a high-performance culture. Drive engineering schedules, milestones, and execution discipline. Own engineering deliverables--ensuring accuracy, completeness, and on-time performance. Manage the engineering budget, including forecasting and cost accountability. Conduct performance reviews, support skills development, and ensure accountability. Partner with HR to address personnel issues and maintain a strong team dynamic. Ensure staff have resources, clarity, and support to succeed.

Technical Program Ownership

Act as an engineering point of contact for customers when needed. Support and reinforce technical positions developed by subject-matter experts. Coordinate responses to customer technical issues and ensure they are properly resolved.

Bids and Proposals Support

Work closely with business development to support bids and proposals. Coordinate engineering input for estimates, schedules, scope definition, and risk identification. Ensure proposals reflect realistic engineering commitments aligned with team capacity and capabilities. Provide leadership in producing high-quality technical content for customer submissions.

Project Leadership

Lead internal engineering-driven projects to completion as required. Example: Coordinating multi-disciplinary efforts such as new equipment or process deployments. Drive decisions, remove blockers, align stakeholders, and ensure projects move forward.

Continuous Improvement

Lead improvements to engineering processes, workflows, and design methods. Champion quality, efficiency, and standardization across engineering output. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Strategic Leadership

Contribute to succession planning and engineering talent development. Act as a key "lieutenant" to senior leadership capable of driving major initiatives independently. Show potential for future advancement into broader organizational leadership roles.

What You Bring

Proven engineering leadership experience in aerospace, electronics, or high-reliability manufacturing. Strong project management and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Experience with budgeting, resource planning, and talent development. Ability to coordinate complex technical activities without needing to be the top technical authority. Experience supporting bids and proposals (or the ability to quickly learn). A continuous-improvement mindset with demonstrated process-enhancement achievements.
