Job Description

Engineering Manager



This is a senior management position reporting to the Chief Operations Officer that is responsible for all aspects of product design, order engineering, manufacturing process engineering, technical documentation and new development projects supporting manufactured and distributed product lines.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management and Development: Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team to ensure optimal performance and skill development. Includes formal evaluation reviews and progressive discipline per policies. Conduct check-ins with team members to provide guidance, resolve issues, and foster an environment of continuous learning. Assist in recruiting and hiring engineers and support staff for the team.
Engineering Support and Quality Control

Oversee the engineering and quality control (QC) processes for specialty doors to ensure product quality meets company and regulatory standards and customer application requirements. Approve the engineering designs for specialty doors and manage revisions as necessary. Approve and provide technical support for custom door solutions.
Sales and Client Support:

Provide support to the sales team by assisting with product specifications and tech support Assist in determining lead times for projects and product deliveries. Approve requests for rush orders and ensure quick resolution. Conduct site visits to resolve technical issues,
Financial and Operational Support:

Approve requests for rush orders, change orders and analyze their impact on project timelines Help determine gross margins and create pricing sheets Oversee creation of inventory/part numbers, bills of materials, and other manufacturing support documents to ensure cost-effective design and manufacturability.
Process Improvement and R&D:

Analyze incidents and reported quality problems using data driven approaches and lean principals, implementing improvements in processes and design. Initiate and maintain product development plans and timelines, reporting on costs and resource requirements. Collaborate with cross functional teams and corporate Engineering to ensure alignment and communication.
Vendor and Supplier Relations:

Act as the point of contact for larger vendors and suppliers. Oversee purchasing department and inventory management. Analyze vendor capability to meet specifications and quality requirements, inventory targets Collaborate with operations to ensure adequate stock levels and avoiding shortages.
Requirements:

Education:

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field Professional Engineering certification in Ontario (Required)
Experience:

Minimum 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 5 years of leadership experience.
Skills:

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including fabrication, assembly, painting, quality planning and inspection. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principals and techniques Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software, AutoCad and Solidworks Experience with project management Ability to review and lead development of blueprints, product specifications, bills of materials and technical support materials.
