StackTeck supplies a wide range of injection molds and IML automation used to produce plastic parts in applications such as caps, closures, medical, PET preforms, and thinwall packaging; as well as complete system integrations including IML. StackTeck recently invested in new capacity to facilitate customer projects for In Mold Labeling (IML) and other packaging applications. This new StackTeck facility is dedicated for automation, robotics engineering, assembly, test and injection molding systems integration. This 13,000 sq. ft. new facility is a 15 minute drive from the main StackTeck mold manufacturing facility near Toronto International Airport.

SUMMARY: The Automation Engineering Manager is responsible to oversee the day-to-day function of the automation business engineering department. As the leader of the department, the Engineering Manager must work with the team to meet target engineering metrics set forth for the department. In a rapidly growing business, agility and the ability to pivot as the business requires is a unique requirement in this role specifically.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the General Manager and Senior Management Team to audit existing engineering processes and introduce improvements to optimize where necessary in a rapidly growing and diversifying Automation business.

  • Be the primary representative for Engineering \xe2\x80\x93 Automation in the following Key Initiatives:
  • Business Process Re-Engineering
  • Automation PDM/PLM audit and development
  • ERP Planning & Implementation
  • ERP Optimization
  • Schedule and manage engineering workload to meet production deadlines and goals:
  • Ensure the distribution of workload is balanced between all designers.
  • Coordinate and manage any outside engineering subcontractors.
  • Lead mechanical, controls and software engineering resources.
  • Provide relevant updates and visibility of engineering projects to downstream departments and management.
  • Responsible for planning, tracking and adhering to engineering target dates and schedule milestones.
  • Lead daily engineering accountability meetings and cross functional design reviews.
  • Coordinate and lead weekly project reviews with project managers and supply chain.
  • Promote open responsive and constructive dialogue between engineering and the shop floor.
  • Technically guide and oversee automation system designs ensuring performance objectives and commitments are met:
  • Establish systems design criteria with designers and the estimating function.
  • Lead the development of process flow diagrams and control strategies.
  • Attend and oversee all Order Confirmation Meetings
  • Drive the use of engineering standardization, process automation and best practices.
  • Oversee creation of BOM hierarchy and structure
  • Implement engineering change procedures and revision controls.
  • Validate final designs meet customer RFQ requirements.
  • Manage all day-to-day administrative issues of the department such as:
  • policies, rules, requests, disciplining, vacation requests, time clock review/approvals etc.
  • Manage and develop team to allow all team members to excel and grow.
  • Conduct all performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Provide feedback on performance reviews for indirect reports.
  • Promote and foster an environment of team work.
  • Motivating the department to be the best they can be.
  • Encourage creative, innovative and solution-oriented thinking.
  • Encourage change as a healthy part of our fast-paced environment.
  • Responsible for hiring decisions within department.
  • Identify and implement targeted skills training across the engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in voice of the customer reviews.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
  • College or University related background in engineering, sciences or mechatronics.
  • 8+ years of experience in the design of industrial equipment, automation and controls systems. Preferred experience in thin-wall, multi-cavity, packaging, caps and closure molds
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisor/manager role.
  • Experience with ERP implementation is highly desirable. Microsoft Dynamics 365 an asset.
  • Experience with PLM software and Solidworks PDM an asset.
  • Familiarity with injection molding machines, tooling and processes is an asset
